“The majority of people who watch Bob Ross have no interest in painting. Mostly it’s his calming voice,” she said.

Ha! At least, I wasn't the only one!

They actually still keep and curate thousands of them in storage. Saw this cool little video about it last summer.

Loved Bob but can't imagine his paintings will ever be worth much. People will only pay so much for novelty factor and just because they are in storage in Duluth, that doesn't make them rare. Don't mean to be a naysayer but those lovely ladies thinking they might be sitting on a gold mine might be disappointed, though I am sure there is some market for them. They better get moving though. Bob's core fanbase ain't getting any younger....

Well, that must be very valuable, since there are only about five thousand of them.

I'd be the 1st painting of his to ever come up for auction, so they could be a bidding war. Lots of "proper" art that is valuable makes zero sense to me, including art by elephants or 8 year old girls.

All the same size, of similar subjects, painted in 22 minutes.

Technically, some of his paintings have come up for auction before. Back in the 80s, some PBS stations would have on-air auctions as fundraisers. Some of Ross' paintings made their way to PBS stations for fundraising. I never heard how many were sold this way... perhaps only a few.

And, if my memory serves me correctly, he also painted a practice one first before painting the one on air. So, double our estimates of how many he painted.

You must be joking, right? Bob is more popular today with younger folk than he ever was when he was alive.

I used to watch Bob Ross quite a bit back in the late 80s. His talent and voice was so relaxing. I would sometimes fall asleep while watching his show. I was on medications that added to that but his calm voice is just so warm and peaceful. I read or heard that many of his paintings are missing and are not accounted for. I wonder how that happened?

He had a military background. I think I heard or read that he was a Marine.

I saw some people at the Mall of America wearing Bob Ross t-shirts.

In art school all of my professors made a practice of looking down their noses at Ross, so there’s a reason to like him.

They recently started selling official Bob Ross Chia pets for his curly hair. Plus a mountain of other slightly tacky "knick knacks" that never existed in previous decades.

My ten year old daughter introduced me to him via youtube!

I must say, I don't like the style of his paintings, but his technique is fantastic. He seemed like a really nice, charismatic fella and like many others, we really enjoy watching his videos.

Yeah, he was a Drill Sargent. Of all jobs in the military, he had the one I can't imagine him doing.

I heard him talk about that in an episode once. He said that he had yelled enough for a lifetime in the military, and that he hadn't raised his voice since he retired.

  25. Value in art comes in as many forms as art itself.
I have to believe a good portion of value regarding Bob Ross paintings stems from his TV persona, and our enjoyment of everything he brought to us in that manner.

When you see a Bob Ross painting you may not stand there marveling at the artistry but I bet you will look at the painting and be immediatly taken to his show and how it effected you...usually a calming, happy memory.
In this case a Bob Ross painting does have some pretty strong value.
