Been thinking of upgrading my stock OM5 w a 10. Is the stylus plug and play? Just pull off the original and plug in the upgrade? Any adjustments needed in weight, anti skate, etc? I have a Rega P1. Thanks for the help.

It’s interchangeable all the way up to the 40. Pretty sure you shouldn’t have to adjust anything, just plug-and-play.

How much gentle force is needed to remove the old stylus?

It can be a bit sticky. Just have a firm grip and take your time. It slides right off at the correct angle. I grab the cartridge with one hand, the stylus with the other, and pull slightly downward on the stylus while pulling it forward.

Some people use pliers. I don't, but some do.

Do yourself a favor and get a Super OM10 rather than just upgrade the stylus. The cost is not a lot more, but the body itself sounds significantly better than does the non-super body. The Super body can be upgraded all the way up to stylus 40 if you ever want to.

Yes, I bought a super om10 a while back for the reason stated above. It's in a rarely used deck right now, but eventually I'd like to try an om30 stylus to see how it sounds. I've read the 30 is the sweet spot of that line up.

Any need to readjust the weight or ant skate?

Probably not. You can check the VTF with a scale if you have one, but should be close enough.

    Gratuitous info:

Going from a 5 to a 10, not all that much of an upgrade. 5 to a 20, you betcha. To a 30, even better.

As always, just my opinion, YMMV.

THe OM30 is the OM equivalent to the 2M Bronze.

Theres not much adjustment you can make with a P1 anyway, they even removed anti skate with that one.
I would just be careful with upgrading further as fine styli profiles require proper installation.

Got the OM 10 stylus yesterday. It took maybe 2 minutes to remove the OM5 and slide in the OM10. Very nice improvement all around. Couldn’t be happier. For $60 it’s a good little upgrade. I’ve had the table for many years. Hope it’s not the start of a slippery slope. Pre ordered the Genesis Seconds Out LP. I have to stay off Amazon.
