Just played 24 karat gold copy of Red Rose Speedway remastered by a certain Steve Hoffman. Picked it up second hand for 14 bucks in St Pete's. It has blown my socks off and is clearly, to me at least, superior to the recent remaster. Replicates to my ears the feel and sound of the original vinyl. Sir, you are a genius. Now the hunt begins for further McCartney 24 karat gold CDs...

Funny, I have all the DCC Maccas and I like the new RRS cd better. But that’s the only one I’ll say that for. The rest of the DCCs are “cold dead fingers” titles for me.

Have tracked down and ordered reasonably priced (?) copies of the 24 karat gold versions of Band On the Run and All the Best. Can't wait for their arrival.

"Our Host Is A Genius!" - he certainly is!

I would like to have more of his work on my shelves - his mastering has never dissappointed.
The disk are not vert common down here, and they command big prices on the net - plus the US post expects us to pay exorbitant rates.

Frankly I don't know or understand how Steve does it! One doesn't even need to be an audiophile or have super expensive equipment to hear and appreciate the Hi-FI attributes of his work. His remasters also affirm that the compact disc format is not to blame for lackluster releases. Thanks for all you do Steve!

It would be nice if a Boutique label could license and reissue the DCC and Audio Fidelity masters - even if just for downloads.

Good luck finding any Gold CDs of Steves. The can go for figures as high as $700.

DCC masterings have been licensed before, so from where I sit I can't see why they can't be licensed again (unless there are legal/copyright/etc complications to do so).

Many (but unfortunately not all) of the Leon Russell DCC masters were previously licensed to and reissued on The Right Stuff label, and I have a Betty Carter and the Beach Boys Lost and Found DCC masters that were licensed to the Aust. budget label Castle (from memory).

If it replicates the sound and feel of the original vinyl then the person who mastered and cut the original vinyl must be the genius.

There’s no such thing as a 24k gold disc of All the Best! done by Steve.

Dunno what you've seen go for $700 - if there's anything that sells for that much right now, I'd think it'd have to be a sealed copy of one of the rarer titles.

Gold DCCs vary in price radically, but you can find most between $50-$75, I'd say, with many cheaper than that.

And you can definitely easily find them - they're out there in plentiful supply. A simple "DCC gold CD" search on eBay brought up 600+ results...
