Bright Size Life: 80/81 Rejoicing Question And Answer Trio 99->00 Trio->Live Unity Band Unity Band - Kin Unity Sessions Till We Have Faces (Gary Thomas) Te Vou! (Roy Haynes) Song X: The Sign Of 4 Cuong Vu Trio Meets Pat Metheny
I have mentioned this before, but the Pat Metheny Group's double-disc live album, Travels, is a terrific album, and a great summation of their work up until that time. I attended the local stop of the tour from which that album was culled, and it might be my favorite of all of the PMG shows I have seen (and I saw all but, I think, one tour).
I like Bailey but I'm not sure if Metheny was at his best trying to play with him. I have this 3 CD set, will check it out again sometime.
Great selection - that Roy Haynes album is under-rated IMHO.. Plus I'd add: The Song X 20th anniversary edition with some extra tunes and an extended version of Endangered Species PM & John Scofield - I Can See Your House From Here The Day Trip and Tokyo Day Trip trio albums Logan Richardson - Shift
C'mon, now we're confusing the poor guy. It's like he tried chocolate ice cream for the first time, and we suggested trying chocolate chip. Then fudge brownie, chocolate salted caramel, chocolate peanut butter, mocha, s'more, fluffanutter, chocolate covered strawberry, lobster chocolate chip, cocoa taco, cocoa crisp berry, Count Chocula cherry, Mozart liqueur swirl, Heath Bar crunch, chocolate spice, whoopie pie (with extra whoop), carob bean brew, toasted coconut Mounds, chocolate fondue, and rocky road. Instead of a simple option, we offer analysis paralysis. (That's not another made up flavor.... although it could be...).
Agreed. Part of the wondrous variety that is Metheny. As he’s been saying recently, he kinda sees his output as ‘one long song.’
My first step into the world of jazz. Before... only some flavours of jazz disguised in blues based records. Pat metheny's interview by Rick Beato made me do this. Today listening to Rejoicing on a pristine Mint original US LP. Wow. It'll be fun to explore his career. I ordered a ton of early CD/LP editions and hoping for the best... Ordered: Watercolours American Garage Bright Size Life Wichita Missouri Sky Pat Metheny Group -s/t Still Life Letter from home
Nice! Hope you enjoy 'em, please share your thoughts. I'd add Offramp, Travels, Question and Answer, The Way Up, Tokyo Day Trip and Tap to this list. Maybe on your next purchase binge.
As Falls Wichita..., Offramp, and Travels finish off that first version of the PMG very well, though Wichita is just Pat & Lyle. 80/81 is fantastic as well.
American Garage cassette was the first to arrive 2 days ago. Played it through my Toshiba PCX20. Man, this thing got me all in. Rejoiced, I had spotified the 1st track which is mentioned in the Beato interview and man, I loved it. Today, to listen to it in full analog goodness along with the rest of the album and the sturdy nice cover on my hands. It's like a drug. It just FEELS Good.
American Garage is a great place to start. And perhaps even linger before going on. I am a fan of most things through Still Life (Talking). I am less of a fan of the avant garde material, but to each their own.
I went to see PM in early November & I have to admit I'm not a big fan of his. I went because it was very local(10 minute drive) and only $30. I love the disc with Dave Holland & Roy Haynes & as a sideman on Ornette Coleman's 'Song X'. He was fantastic at the concert! He's playing in a trio with keys(piano/organ/synths) & drums and they used some stuff that was triggered by their playing. The project is called Side Eye, and the two other guys in his band were also excellent. If anyone gets a chance to see them, by all means go!
AG, while a very good album, may be my least favorite of the PMG albums. It's not as ambitious as they'd get, and not an advancement from their Downbeat Award winning debut in 1977, which I think is a better album.
Agree. But I'm going to check it out tomorrow again. Every now and then I fast track through it, hoping it'll change my mind.
