    1) thread leading up to release was closed on day of release
    2) appreciation thread was started along with an announement thread upon release
    3) the two threads in #2 were merged after confusion
    4) the newly merged thread was eventually closed because people mentioned politics.
    5) a new thread was started to discuss chart position and sales. Some posts about the album are in there but lost amongst sales talk
    6) thus, a new thread (this one) was started and is the only open thread dedicated to a discussion of the music.

    Same boat.

For about six weeks I went through a big McCartney/Lennon/Beatles listening phase - getting to know Venus And Mars and Wings At The Speed Of Sound for the first time, and diving into Beatles in mono.

The result? My girlfriend banned me from playing Beatles/McCartney in the car for awhile. This weekend I put on a few tracks from Egypt Station, and she said "it sounds modern". She started singing along to Come On To Me. When I told her it had just come out, she asked how old McCartney was. I said mid-70s, and she was floored. She thought he sounds in his 40s.

I'm with you on all of this other than Fuh You never really bothered me either way, but it made a lot more sense with the correct lyrics.

I think the very idea is to pull that discussion over here, and leave the chart talk over there.

Because there was no other place to discuss it that was left open.

That’s so cool! It’s always interesting to hear perceptions of Paul and his viability/quality/enjoyability from the non-converted. Sometimes the less you know the better maybe!

    Thanks DP for opening this.

One spot on the album I’ve really been enjoying lately is the “b section” in Naked. The “save my soul and set it free” verse is a great variation to the main line, and is cool too when it comes back as a short lead guitar bridge.

How hard is it to understand; the O.P. made it clear that this is an appreciation thread, and that it is for those who do enjoy at least some of the album. Don't post about other threads on similar topics, don't post about the fact it's an appreciation thread; post about the album or just ignore this thread. Easy!

As for the album, I will try and find my review from the closed thread and re-post it here, but it keeps on growing in my estimation and I now rank it higher than 'New', not something that I ever thought I would say.

Oh, I see. Yeah, the "#1 album in US" part could be a bit confusing.

Towards the end of Fuh You there’s a high synthesized voice that seems to be saying “hold me in your arms” although I’m unsure.

No matter, this sonic gem continues to grow on me with its unbridled passion reinforced by a video depicting the joys of puberty. So much so, the song’s production seems boundless as if no stadium can contain it.

Besides Paul’s lead vocal is worth the price of admission.

I think the modernisms inFuh You are hillarious. In a good way. They come across as playful.

And i love this album. I am not a huge Paul solo fan (or any of the other solo Beatles for that matter). For me the magic is in that old band of theirs. But this album is just a joy.

The more I listen to ES, the more I get a Wings vibe to the album. At times I swear I hear Linda’s backing vocals.

Ahh I see; sorry for snapping, I thought you were just trying to threadcrap, I didn't realise you didn't know about the thread closure.

  23. Really? Yeah 9 is crazy.

So it seems that a lot of people have tons of time on their hands which could be used more for working, thus having more money to afford more of the big reissues and box sets maybe?
