    A very Brit-pop sound! :D

It is impressive how good he sounds on this album, I don't notice his age apart from on two tracks.

Speaking of Fuh You, I like the concept of the live version, but I think Paul needs better backing singers to actually get good results on it :hide:

Me too. Egypt Station is better than New. It's an easy call at this point, after 10 days.

    I Don't Know 7/10
    Come On to Me 7/10
    Happy With You 7/10
    Who Cares 7/10
    Fuh You 6/10
    Confidante 6/10
    People Want Peace 7/10
    Hand in hand 8/10
    Dominoes 9/10
    Back in Brazil 7/10
    Do It Now 7/10
    Ceasar Rock 6/10
    Despite Repeated Warnings 9/10
    Hunt You Down/Naked/C-Link 9/10
    Get Started 7/10
    Nothing For Free 7/10

The striking feature of Egypt Station is it's consistent high quality. It doesn't feature very many career peaks, but everything is very good. There aren't any low moments. There is nothing I want to skip.

For reference, I'd rank these as 10/10:

Band On The Run, Jet, 1985
    This Never Happened Before
    Beautiful Night
    Only Love Remains
    Maybe I'm Amazed
Tug Of War, Take It Away, Here Today, Wanderlust
    With A Little Luck
Listen To What The Man Said

Never said I had to follow the rules! We'll get there! I still love the album, more each time I hear it! Favorites right now, Back To Brazil, People Want Peace, and Hunt/Naked/CLs.

With relatively few perfect 10s for you in Paul’s solo work, do you have a comparatively low amount of 10s in the Beatles catalog? Just curious if you’ve pondered that as well

Yes...and as others have noted, at times, he earily sounds like his seventies self, most notably at the 6:20 mark of DRW, where he sings the counter melody:

The version in NY was dire. The one in Abbey Road I enjoyed greatly. Has any live footage from Quebec of that song been uploaded anywhere ?

  9. Can we start posting about Paul's next album here too? :tiphat:

The opening of this album is so good (opening station / I Don't Know) that even if everything that followed was a failure, the album would still be regarded as a worthwhile effort. The song is an instant classic and Beatles-worthy. That high standard continues throughout the rest of the album.

Still my favorite song on the album, and I love them all.

This song takes it up a notch like nothing since maybe Tug of War.

Yes we can do it, we can do it now!

  14. I think Paul should cover Dylan doing Sinatra. I'd appreciate that. Paul McCartney's Triplicate.

With respect, I hate Dylan’s Sinatra period. In my eyes, no one should compare McCartneys latter day albums with any of those wastes. In my opinion of course.

    And I love Bob Dylan!

Honestly, my esteem for Kurstin was never high. I thought he was competent in the same way that all these producers are - making hits. But he really pulled a rabbit out of the hat here, and I don't love the album as much as some (understatement). It seems he's really an idea man, and they're generally good ideas, and he's got the skills to pull them off. I respect him.

    Where's the Kurstin appreciation thread?

I put off listening to this for 1.5 weeks. Dunno why but after I listened I’ve concluded it’s the best thing he’s done musically since Flaming Pie. Talk about rejuvenation.

Paul could be a sneak and do the Beatles version of "P.S. I Love You" instead of the Jenkins/Mercer one. :D

The first week it was out I loved everything except the two 6+ minute tracks. Now I can say I love them! DRW and Hunt/Naked/C-Link took me a few more listens to reveal their intricacies in arrangement and lyrics. I never thought I'd see one of my favorite musicians make such a great album this late into his career. I do think Paul has been having a very good run since Chaos & Creation, but Egypt Station IMO is his best since McCartney II.

  25. I appreciate Paul going to temple for Yom Kippur today.
