I especially like the Opening Station and Station II --- because they are really short in length.

The rest of the album stinks.

Well, I adhered to your RULE!

Just kidding. I truly appreciate the whole album, and have learned to "not barf" when I hear "Fuh You". ;)

He has to atone for his sins done in 1958 with John and the other Quarrymen when they were chanting Brigitte Bardot and Winston Churchill ... ;)

I agree Kurstin did a great job on this album. I hope Paul makes another album with him. I think Ryan Tedder would be a great choice for some non-album singles with more of a pop/Top 40 sound. I actually really like Fuh You and Nothing for Free but they don't fit the overall sound of the album.

I think it's going to end up battling with tug of war in my rankings. There are songs on TOW that I rank higher than anything on ES (tug of war, here today, pound is sinking. Wanderlust)but a few lower than anything on ES as well ( ebony and ivory, dress me up like a robber, someone who Cares, be what you see)

Which thread should I post in if I want to discuss the stickers included with the CD from Japan? Or should I start a brand-new thread just to discuss that?

    ;)

I generally like the album (see my scores), but Caesar Rock is truly dreadful, that one should have been left off.

The 3 singles (even Fuh You) sound better in the context of the album.
Lyrics could be better in many cases but the genuine optimism of the album is infectious as are the melodies.
When I wake up with a song I dismissed stuck in my brain I wonder: how in the heck does he do that?

Somehow I think it plays better on vinyl with the three breaks between the four sides.......but those Target tracks are missed!

Probably:) She's eastern European, and certainly knew Beatles music before we met, but not a lot about them.

She thought I was messing with her when I said Egypt Station was McCartney. She said it like an accusation, like with a question mark - "it sounds...modern?"

Happy With You is one of my current favorites on the album. Stuck in my head immediately. I like everything about it -- especially the lyrics. The "I used to get stoned, I liked to get wasted" -- that's so dang blunt (no pun intended) for McCartney. I like the way he breaks the vocal after "happy" and pauses before "with you" kicks in. And the "I got lots of good things to do" line is simple and direct but implies a lot: This is someone who had a period where he spent a lot of time wasted because he was so deeply unhappy and angry. I think this song is probably about the contrast between his 2nd and 3rd marriages, but as usual, the track is universal. Anyone who has been through a period of depression and overdoing the booze/weed/etc., and come through it to a happier place can relate.

Question: "hear the gentle mantle roll, on a frosty morn"? That's what the lyrics say but what's a "mantle"? It doesn't even sound like he's saying "mantle."

Hmm.. a mantle is something the covers something else or the back of a bird. Definition I saw gave the example of a mantle of leaves on the ground.

Sounds like Paul is singing “hear the gentle mantra roll on a frosty morn.”

It's been nearly two weeks and this release has fully enveloped me. I limit myself to just one spin per day, and I can't wait until tomorrow to hear it again.

I have the target version, and can't imagine the album without get started & nothing for free.

I'm not really into ranking albums or individual tracks, but I've never enjoyed listening to 1 album from beginning to end more than ES.

It is just such a joy to listen to for me.

“Dire” is a good word for it, haha. I agree that the band sounded better at AR, but to my ears Paul sounded more ragged and his New York vocal was better. Maybe (hopefully) in Quebec it all lined up?

Get on it @Dr. Pepper !

That’s actually what I heard too, but the official lyrics disagree!

What is the instrument being played on Hunt You Down? Is that an electric cello? ...or perhaps an electric guitar being bowed?

"Cloudy mantle of great horizontal extension, composed of individualized clouds of little vertical development, that can cover the sky in its totality"
