Rather than an intent of creating a finished record, this was probably the guys just jamming for fun, but also recorded and filmed for potential use as interstitial content between scenes, or as b-roll, for the Anthology documentary.

For some reason it wasn't used. Perhaps it could be revisited and utilized if Anthology is ever updated/expanded/re-released.

And we wouldn't know the song was on its way, so I'm glad he said something. It's worth all the misunderstandings and waiting time to finally have this.

Not me. If it wasn't just as awful it would be already out there as part of some project.

While we wait for the official word, this is a pretty great re-imagining of N&T... Complete with a "Revolver" vibe & groove.

Interesting idea, a Greatest Hits package mixing of old and new songs, Now and Then . . . The Best of the Beatles

it certainly worked well for this band, Then and Now, the Best of the Monkees.

Well I'm guessing that rumored September 29 release (or even October 9, at this rate...) isn't happening. No new Beatles song for my road trip

You can get my new Ringo book for your road trip. Should be published this week barring any hangups. Wouldn't recommend driving and reading though at the same time.

At this point, I'd say no to a September or October release date, as bad as I want to hear that song.

Yeah, most optimistically, it *could* be an announcement next week for a 11/17 release... or early Oct announcement for 11/24 release.

YES, my guess would be one of those. Probably the latter. I can handle either of them though, as long as it isn't longer.
I remember @Rigsby said way back that it was coming this fall, but not in December. IF, and I stress I-F- that is still in place, we should get the announcement during the timeframe you laid out.

  16. There is a Who compilation called Then and Now, too.

I think The Who have used up all the possible titles for comps by now ;)

Why? If all which was delayed was the release announcement, not the actual materials production or release date, we could get the announcement late and still get the release on its original date.
    Anyone?

It doesn't seem likely, as the last few Beatles releases have adhered pretty strictly to a 50 day window between announcement and release, give or take a couple days. So we're into the territory of 50 days from today is November 7.

True enough, but they've got lost time to make up for just as the holiday season starts warming up.
I'm trying to picture how they could catch up with themselves to still make the original release date, so this solution just seemed obvious (despite the 50 day precedent, which I'd suppose they may manage to modify in this circumstance).
Aside from the question of when, I think the bigger question, now, is - What? We have some solid hints, but HAS a change occurred with the actual content of the physical record(s), have elements been revised on a rush basis?
Can't help rumination. Because I suspect (hope) we're on the eve of an announcement.

It's funny to remember, and a bit lost to history by now, but most (if not all) involved in the reunion sessions were kind of ho-hum about "Real Love" back in 1995-96. The feeling was that "FAAB" gave them more to work with, more collaboration, which made it more of a "Beatles" track, whereas "Real Love" felt like they were just John's backing band. I don't have access to my archives at the moment or I would provide quotes -- but I'm sure someone here will dig some up.

I say it's "funny" because now, nearly 30 years later, a lot of fans consider "Real Love" to be the better (or at least the most successfully executed) track.

P.S. - I have a funny feeling that "Now And Then" is going to be terrific, with the sound issues cleared up and the vocal extracted from the piano, yes, but also with the multi-part structure of the song and Paul able to work on it unfettered by George's curmudgeonly tendencies (as much as I love George). I think it's going to be a home run.

Paul McCartney: 'The thing for me that was not quite as much fun in the recording of Real Love was that it was finished. It had all the words and music. So I didn't really get to input which... like the three of us had been able to input on Free As A Bird. So it made it more like a Beatles session. This was, like, more like we were side men to John.
