I think Paul’s recent output has been top notch. Then again, Paul could yodel while he bangs on some pots and pans and I’d find it enjoyable. I’m not very objective when it comes to him. Will we see a new album in 2023? I sure hope so.
I wouldn't mind Paul Epworth producing or co-producing a new album with McCartney, to be frank. But a self-produced album would probably be the best option.
I almost completely agree with that order. Egyptian Station is so good. So interesting to know what direction McCartney will go next with his next album.
For his next album, I hope he goes the "Flaming Pie/Chaos And Creation route" again, with more introspective songs, mellower melodies, that kind of stuff. And his touring band playing on most songs, making a "live in the studio" sort of album. And, please, no trendy producer!!! No!!! Please, no!!!
Amen to this ! In the meantime, why not listening to my - vinyl friendly - Chaos & Flaming Pie in the Backyard ? That was a tough one to do with many tracks I love in both albums gone. But what is left is some of the best work Macca had recorded between 1997 and 2005. I mean in my opinion and taste of course. I had spent quite some time trying to sequence each track in relation to the whole 40 minutes. Chaos and Flaming Pie in the Backyard
With one Driving Rain track thrown in for good measure! haha And it does belong there! Cool list! I'll give it a listen.
After emptying my pockets for the singles crate...I want Back To The Egg and London Town archives. Then I am done...maybe
Ah ah, thank you. Yes that ONE track on Driving Rain which kind of foreshadowed what will Paul record with Godrich few years later.
An absolute masterpiece. Maybe one of my favorite albums of all time already. Paul, please give us something this good in 2023.
I'd be quite happy with a new New-like album, but I still insist, two years on, that McCartney III is a masterpiece.
My personal preference would be an album that sounds like New and McCartney III at the same time. I'd be okay with him bringing in Paul Epworth for some help, but the songwriting overall is arguably better on McCartney III, so at the same time I hope he manages to come up with songs that sound like MCIII. I'm still trying to figure out what Slidin' reminds me of. Blue Cheer? Tony Iommi? Grunge? I have no idea how a song like that suddenly came out in 2020.
I would love to see Paul go down the 'Deep Deep Feeling', 'Hunt You Down/Naked/C-Link' route and expand out more instrumentally. I am intrigued by his Cubase experiments. He recently asked Khruangbin to remix 'Pretty Boys' (which I adored) - I'd love to see him collaborate with them on original material.
It tank he needs to focus more on writing songs like Find My Way, Slidin', Long Tailed Winter Bird (what a guitar showcase - I'm still amazed) and Women and Wives.
10 thumbs up for this, Ben - I would really love that as well. My head is just exploding at the thought as they - and he of course! - are incredible. Love their remix of Pretty Boys (my favorite just behind Idris Elba's) and their latest collaboration with Vieux Farka Touré is terrific.
Four very strong compositions, I love how different they all are from each other - 'Find My Way' is my favourite of Paul's lead single choices in a very long time (and the video is fantastic). I would be very happy with a side one made up of a diverse array of songs of that quality and then a more instrumental second side.
I want McCartney to get his band in the studio get back to his roots and finally record a full album using just them. Get as far away from sounding like McCartney III as possible!
Yeah, let’s get to something Paul WANTS to sound like, instead of this stuff that’s written, recorded and produced by him!
I respect your opinion. I think the worst albums Paul has released are Driving Rain...Wild life....Egypt Station...Red Rose Speedway and unfortunately III. Make no mistake I am a huge Paul fan but he has yet to really impress me since Flaming Pie. Now awaiting my Paul singles crate that should be here by Wednesday
I respect your opinion as well but I'm very surprised that you think MCIII is one of Paul's worst albums. Please listen to Find My Way to from 0:30-0:47. Maybe it will change your opinion on the album How the hell did Paul McCartney come up with a melody that good?
Sorry I just don't see it your way. Actually I think the best thing on it is the opening instrumental. I bought this on vinyl on release day and have tried and tried to get into it. I will continue to buy any new releases he puts out. III will more than likely sit in my collection and rest a good year or more before I give it another chance.
