McCartney III (1990) = Early 90s sound, maybe a bit of hip hop or techno McCartney IV (2000) = R'n'B, Club music, maybe lounge / house, britpop McCartney V (2010) = Indie pop / rock, music alá "Somebody That I Used To Know", McCartney VI (2020) = Ed Sheeran "sound", Bip Bop (Part 2) etc. No, I am happy that Paul didn't made music like that. But the idea of "McCartney III" sounds good if the album doesn't sound bad and Paul's not losing his unique style that makes his music sound like his own.
Yeah he should definitely take a break from his run of super strong albums to put out a third self titled one with lots of pointless filler out in 2020. Maybe even include extended remixes of Glasses, Kreen Akore and Frozen Jap for nostalgia's sake.
I think it's an awesome idea, and I think even Paul has mentioned the possibility of a McCartney III at some point, and 2020 would be the most logical time to do it. There are no doubts that if he does it, it will be only him on all instruments and production. The only bummer is that Linda isn't around to provide harmonies and take the photos.
Wasn't there a rumor that McCartney recorded around 20 songs by himself with Geoff Emerick in 2009 for a possible "McCartney III" album? The only song released so far from these sessions is "I Want To Come Home".
I think Electric Arguements is what a McC3 album should sound like, and it’s the closest we have: Macca playing every instrument, written & recorded quickly, just the right amount of weird. I don’t think we’ll ever get a McC3 because 1&2 were born out of a struggle when he just *had* to work by himself. I don’t think it’s his default setting. What I would like, on a vaguely related note, is for one more Peter Gabriel album called Peter Gabriel. Same font, in the corner, but an old Peter looks out from the cover.
I don’t really want Paul to continue the “McCartney” album tradition of four real songs surrounded by a bunch of tossed off instrumentals or semi-instrumentals. If he was going to call something “McCartney III” Electric Arguments would have been it, even if he didn’t record it singlehandedly at home.
I hope Paul's next album will be called McCartney III, followed by an untitled album made up of various symbols.
As the historic event in 2020 approaches I would predict more threads on McCartney on SHF that reaching new highs, with such questions as What is Paul McCartney's favourite brand of muesli ? What does Paul McCartney think of the recent Mersey Ferry price rises ? "We all stand together" 17 disc boxset announced If you could have loaned Paul McCartney a pair of shoes for the Abbey Road cover, which ones would you have given him? Who sang the ahhhs in "A day in the life" ?
IMO it’s time for Sir Paul to call it a day. His last few albums were pretty bad. He should play golf or take up bowls.
Back in the day, Memory Almost Full was almost called McCartney III- I think even Macca said that himself!
With Paul now stuck at home due to COVID 19, maybe now would be a good time to work on McCartney III. I understand he is self isolating in his Sussex home where he has his studio and is with his daughter Mary who can do the photography and maybe film it!!
I really hope McCartney 3 is released soon. I'd definitely buy it and I haven't bought a Paul album since Flowers in the dirt in 89
Didn't see mention in this thread of McCartney's cherries album getting special 50th anniversary release in a limited edition half-speed mastered vinyl pressing for Record Store Day, whenever and wherever it happens. Maybe I missed it.
