"Greatest solo album" is extremely subjective, but no matter — George's box was being mentioned as delayed prior to us learning of McCartney III.

Since Macca I is coming out on RSD drop #2 this week, it would be good timing/marketing for a Macca III to come soon after.
I hope McCartney III will be a balanced mix of the classy side of Chaos And Creation and the crazy experimental side of Electric Arguments. That being said, I really don't want it to sound like another Paul McCartney album. It must have its own sound, its own feeling. I would hate if it sounds like the continuity of Egypt Station (not that I hate Egypt Station).
As mentioned above, there's so much room to do all in the same period. And that has always been the case. Also, how long is promo buzz these days, 12 hours?
I hope this is true. I love Paul and have always loved McCartney and McCartney II. If this is new stuff coming from Paul, from this day and age and everything he's seen and experienced in the world, and not too rushed, I believe this album will be great for a trilogy.
I really want this to be true, but until an official announcement is made, I'm skeptical. Do I want a new McCartney album this year? Uh, yeah!! A little light at the end of this dreadful year is needed. At the same time, I don't want to get my hopes up and find out, nope, nothing's coming.

Interesting. Before I read the OP here I thought this was just a (big) wish of many people and that it was unlikely Paul would do something on his very own again... Now, seems there's more behind the scenes then. Well, let's hope we get something like this!

I have no doubt that Paul is composing new songs during this lockdown, and I wouldn't be surprised if he is doing some home recordings for a future album. However, I'm not convinced that Paul would return to that primitive style of making an album after his successful run of albums that included numerous contributions from highly regarded producers and engineers. I loved the "McCartney" album because it contained some truly great songs, but I agree with George Harrison's comments about how much better some of those songs would have been with some professional musicians playing(Especially drums) and perhaps some better refinement of some of those song fragments. I thought Chaos and Creation was a better version of McCartney because of the higher level of production and engineering even with Paul playing nearly every instrument.
I can see where you're coming from, but the McCartney album is acclaimed for the exact reasons you don't like it. In fact, his successful run of albums that included numerous contributions from highly regarded producers is the reason why I think he must be feeling free now to go that funky again.
What does it matter Mr. Jinks has no rep to defend, I mean the guy has no where to go but up. Of course, no offense to @mrjinks In all honesty, I have never hoped you were more right than right now, Jinksy!
Hahaha that's too much of a compliment, but I take it, read in his agonised interview voice ("you have all the old records there if you want to reminisce....")
