I'm a few days late on this but I think that Baby's Request is the song that McCartney should have offered to Frank Sinatra.

Agree. And his unorthodox approach yields creative results that others wouldn't think to do. There's a personal style that's developed in Paul's orchestral work as a result of this approach. There are distinct qualities that you can pick up on. It makes it interesting and it makes it his own which is good.

    Hey Diddle (2/5)

I like Linda’s part but this is still a pretty slight song. It has some endearing charms though.

The title sounds silly to me when sung. I don’t know what a Diddle is and I don’t want to know.

Maybe some lothario Hobbit from Lord of Rings: After Dark?

Well I personally find some of Paul’s classical work mediocre, some average and some good. The good parts are often connected to Paul’s melodicism so I don t disagree on that.

    More about Ocean's Kingdom...

    Finally,

    Ocean's Kingdom (Short version) :)

    From video's description:

"This week's track of the week features four 30" clips from Paul's 2011 album 'Ocean's Kingdom'. The music was commissioned by the New York City Ballet."

The Liverpool Oratorio had the great themes and melodies.

Standing Stone had that electrifying spark.

Ecce Cor Meum showed craftsman-like experience.

Ocean’s Kingdom checks all these boxes. It’s truly a culmination of all Paul has learned about classical music and it wins big time.

Yes...but as far as that goes , Helter Skelter ' would have been a better choice to offer to Sinatra than ' Suicide '

This pretty much sums it up for me, though I'd maybe tweak it to say:

"Compared to very good “real”orchestral and classical music it still is pretty average or even mediocre."

as not all real orchestral and classical music is that good.

I'd rate late-period Mozart and Beethoven as pretty equal and superior to early-period Mozart. But that's just me. :)

Apparently "diddle" is a verb, which I never knew until now. I'd only come across the word previously in the nursery rhyme:

    Hey diddle, diddle
    The cat and the fiddle
The cow jumped over the moon
    The little dog laughed
    To see such sport
And the dish ran away with the spoon

Maybe that's why a later version featured the fiddle?

Sounds like I'll have to check it out again!

    More about Ebony And Ivory...

    A controversial review:

From The Number Ones: Paul McCartney & Stevie Wonder’s “Ebony And Ivory”

"It’s hard to imagine “Ebony And Ivory” ever convincing anyone to reconsider their deeply-held prejudices. Instead, it’s the sort of song that flatters the listener — that allows us to congratulate ourselves on our own enlightenment. Maybe that’s why it was so popular. The song was also, I guess, a chance to hear two generationally beloved musicians singing together."

The song has never done much for me. Kind of disappointing coming from these two major talents. I can't argue with the song's sentiments but that's about it.

"Ebony and Ivory" commits the cardinal sin of not solving all the world's racial tensions in 3 minutes and 42 seconds. And how dare a rich and "aristocratic" (?) man write it, because they're clearly not allowed to have concerns about racial harmony. The author complains of the "smugness" of McCartney's lyrics. Have a look in the mirror dude.

Sounds a little proto-punk to me. I think this sort of thing would have gone over much better instead of London Town. Paul ahead of his time yet again.

I pay these type reviews ABSOLUTELY NO ATTENTION! How does he know how a song will effect a person?? I know people in my community who more than appreciated that song! I've said this before, that song brought McCartney a whole new audience of listeners! African Americans that had never listened to McCartney before, found out about him. In contrast with many so called McCartney fans, the song gained him respect and admiration with them! I know this to be true, because I heard the comments from family and friends.
McCartney can do some weird strange horrible noise like McCartney II or the Firemen, but OH NO he committed the unpardonable sin of singing a pop song with absolutely timeless lyrics, that are MORE MEANINGFUL AT THIS VERY MOMENT THAN EVER!
What could have possibly got into him? Oh and one more thing...I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE SONG!
I think that type is TOO BLIND AND DOESN'T HAVE ENOUGH BRAINS to see themselves honestly! Because they don't like the song they make all kinds of absolutely ridiculous comments! As I've recently shared, I think Temporary Secretary is HORRIBLE, but I'm not going to make assumptions about it for others! In fact I said, if people like it that's great! We all like different McCartney songs!
    I'll never think because I don't like a song others shouldn't either!

I'm Gonna Sit Right Down And Write Myself A Letter

A tribute to his roots, to his dad, to his new love: Nancy. This is a pleasant, fragile, simple and honest performance.

    Lyrics:

I'm gonna sit right down and write myself a letter
And make believe it came from you
I'm gonna write words oh so sweet
They're gonna knock me off my feet
A lotta kisses on the bottom
I'll be glad I got ‘em

    I'm gonna smile and say
    I hope you're feeling better
And close with love the way you do
I'm gonna sit right down and write myself a letter
And make believe it came from you

    ~SOLO~

    I'm gonna smile and say
    I hope you're feeling better
And close with love the way you do
I'm gonna sit right down and write myself a letter
    And make believe, ah
    I'm gonna make believe
I'm gonna make believe, it came from you
