I Want To Hold Your Hand
Another timeless classic. Just love it.
The song has a very different way of explaining lust than more recent songs like Fuh You.
    Anyway
    The message is the same
    :)

I Want To Hold Your Hand checks all the boxes for the early Beatle songs. Catchy melody, high energy rhythm, unison/harmony vocal splits, flashy guitar licks - it's got all of it.

It's not my favorite song from that early period but it might be the group's best sounding. Such a well produced record.

Regarding the vocals, who hits the high note as the verse leads into the refrain? Is that McCartney or is that Lennon going falsetto?

I don't know if this is allowed. You have to agree with one or the other. It's the law.

This is a recording I did with my young daughter on vocals. I only include it as it is a very different take on this song. If you feel it doesn't belong in this thread, feel free to delete it.

I Want To Hold Your Hand is the song that really hones the Beatles early sound. She Loves You was fantastic but I Want To Hold Your Hand sounded more polished and, well, professional. To my ears, it marks their entry into the big leagues of recording artists & writers. One might argue that a lot of Beatles songs are of their time or are dated in some way. But I Want To Hold Your Hand, to my ears anyway, still sounds exciting and urgent. The later Beatle songs and recordings are more sophisticated and inventive, but it would be difficult to argue that anything they recorded was "better". This is a killer track, full stop.

    CAN'T BUY ME LOVE(Lennon/McCartney)

JOHN 1972: "John and Paul, but mainly Paul."

JOHN 1980: "That's Paul completely. Maybe I had something to do with the chorus, but I don't know. I always considered it his song."

PAUL 1984: "We recorded it in France, as I recall. Went over to the Odeon in Paris. Recorded it over there. Felt proud because Ella Fitzgerald recorded it, too, though we didn't realize what it meant that she was doing it."

PAUL circa-1994: "'Can't Buy Me Love' is my attempt to write a bluesy mode. The idea behind it was that all these material possessions are all very well but they won't buy me what I really want."

Probably the first song and maybe She Loves You that showed the lads were ready for the world to be their stage.

The breakthrough song in North America and Beatemania is unleashed in its full blown glory.
Great tune too. Underappreciated in many ways though. I think it gets swept up in the mania .

    How so?
These songs are either written by or co-written by McCartney. Of course they're Paul -songs.

' Can't Buy Me Love ' is the first Beatles single to feature a solo vocal but it hardly suffers for it.
Also...it was the single that was Number One on the Billboard chart the week that The Beatles had the Top 5 singles.

CAN'T BUY ME LOVE - I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS SONG! McCartney's stellar rock shouting is stage front and delivering a message that will forever be absolutely timeless! On top of that it totally rocks and features one of my very favorite guitar solos by Harrison! The Beatles at the very top of their game, this performance from the Hollywood Bowl just rocks...
