So many great performances it's hard to choose. Cool Hand Luke is probably the best but my favorite, because I am a racing fan, is Lemans. He also makes a great salad dressing.

Tough. At first I was gonna say, "Butch", which of course
really established his public persona, but I'm sure fans of
his earlier flicks would say it was established by '69.

Probably "Luke" with "Butch" a close second.

I'd have to go with Luke also. Someone mentioned Hombre, I also liked that one. He made a good martyr in a few of his films.

Paul Newman rarely played kick-ass roles. Often, his characters were heroic but more nuanced.

Here's a great scene from Hombre where Paul Newman's character brings an abrupt and decisive end to some cowboys bad behavior:

Not sure if it's his best, but my favorite is also Hombre.

I'm a repeat viewer too, but I always think of the comment from a reviewer (maybe Roger Ebert): "If you like snow, you'll love this movie."
