I wonder what Rick's reaction was when he found out that's not the guitar on James Bond and many of the most famous recordings from Vic.

Rick was also caught out on the silver, I have no specialist knowledge and even I recognised one of those vinaigrettes was clearly marked NM for Nathaniel Mills the number one maker of vinaigrettes and card cases so for him to tell the potential seller that they were all second rate makers was disingenuous to say the least, I'm glad he didn't get them.

The "deals" are fake and everything about the show (including the "skits") are of course all a set up.

But I still think (most of) the skits are pretty funny and it is interesting to learn about the things people "bring in".

They give Chumlee some really funny lines (or maybe he improvises them).

I do think that some of the newest episodes aren't as good as the earlier ones. Maybe the formula is wearing thin? Some of the set-ups and payoffs are a bit obvious and contrived.

My wife's cousin is going to be on this week's episode. He is selling a 1933 Plymouth, and it is listed in the episode guide. She just found out about this, so am interested in hearing the details about his episode.

Overall, I find Pawn Stars to be a decent show highlighting many worthwhile antiques. Fake or not, it does educate on various valuable items that many people may have. It is not like "HardCore Pawn," which I watch just to see how many idiots will walk into the shop begging to be thrown out.

I liked the show a lot better when it focused more on the stuff being brought into the store and less on the obvously-scripted wacky adventures of Chumlee and the rest of the cast.

I've liked "Pawn Stars" from the bginning and it still holds up for me... I just wish Richard "The Old Man" Harrison was on the show more than he has been for the last season or two...

From what I've read, it's mostly Pawn Stars merchandise and none of the stars of the show ever actually work the counter anymore.

exactly, saw no one associated with the show while i was there, and no one is even allowed close to the desk where they always sit and talk.

and i didn't see one thing in any case that i ever saw on the show.

What you see on TV is filmed when the store is closed to the public. The people in the store are all paid participants including the people "browsing". None of what you see on TV is how the actual store operates.

As, of course, would HAVE to be the case. Can you imagine a store full of people blissfully browsing when a full camera crew was inside filming?

I never see much of an actual "Storyline" with pickers, are you sure?

Usually the only drama, is trying to find places to pick and related to the items.
If anything, they seem to not go much into anything outside picking.!

I think people forget that these shows are not about the cool things people bring in or find but rather the characters first and everything else second. Pawn Stars never would've been made if the network didn't believe the characters were going to be engaging and watchable.

Same thing goes with American Pickers. It's the best of these sorts of reality shows in my opinion. It's stayed truer to the roots of the show, but what keeps me watching isn't the cool pre-war Harley they might find but rather the main characters, the people they meet, the stories behind the collections and then of course they find a lot of cool stuff.

Storage Wars, to me, is almost unwatchable because they lost some of their best characters. Barry leaving left a huge hole in the show character wise.

You remove the human element from these shows and you've got very little. Granted sometimes it can swing too much to the characters and it becomes boring so you do need a good balance.

Best moment ever on Pawn Stars: a collector named Brett Bogus comes in to sell his collection of 9 Republic of Texas currency notes (asking price $25,000) plus 1 Government of Texas note (asking price $625,000). You could tell this guy was full of sh!# just by how he talked like a know it all, a shyster. So Rick calls in his expert to look at the notes, and the expert says they are pretty rare. He puts the value of all the notes together at $13,800! So Rick offers the guy $6,500, just 1/100 of the asking price! Bogus was completely blindsided and could hardly contain himself at what he felt was an insulting offer based on a clueless and incompetent person. I think Bogus was listing that Gov't of Texas note on eBay for half a million for years after that aired.
