Whoa whoa, I mentioned Joni.

And there's Linda Ronstadt, Patti Smith at the top also.

Yea the porpoise song is amazing. I first heard it on the vanilla sky movie and the whole head album is really cool.

  4. I can't fathom how The Monkees get all the love they get around here. But then again, I only know their top 10-15 biggest, most mainstream hits.
Other than the cultural impact (i.e. "reach") that they had on TV being obviously **MUCH** greater -- I've otherwise always just thought the Monkees might as well have been another Paul Revere and the Raiders, in terms of actual musical impact/value/import. (Another band I don't know all that well, admittedly.)

I don't deny The Monkees their success (probably well-deserved), but the degree to which people apparently still hold them in such high musical(?) regard, just astounds me. Admittedly, my opinion is primarily formed having seen Monkees reruns on TV over the years (back in the 80's mostly), and that's pretty much it.

That Black Sabbath album by album thread that had 4 parts of 40+ pages then the 5th of about 8 pages is quite telling no? Most of the other ABA threads I saw didn't come close, maybe I'm well out of the loop - surely the Rolling Stones one came close, what other band has had such a long run of album releases..

It really speaks more to my living in a cave, but until I started reading online music forums, and especially this board, I was completely unaware of the continuing popularity of "Prog". This was something I totally forgot about in the early '80s, essentially the last time I listened to mainstream radio (that was when my local AOR station went country!)

I was astonished to see all the interest here in Prog in general, and in Rush in particular

I disagree on Elvis. It seems his popularity is fading along with his original fan base.

Sinatra however has very impressively transferred to new generations. Indeed The "American Songbook" seems more popular now than 40 years ago.

King Crimson kind of surprised me with its fairly rabid following here. For me KC began and ended with The Court Of The Crimson King.

both the monkeys and raiders released in a *relatively* short period of time some incredibly catchy and memorable pop/rock tunes. irrespective of who played what ( or didn't ) and probably/possibly "how little".

people remember the songs, recording and the singles. that explains "it" for me.

Albeit a saying, it is not true. Just ask Keith's neighbors, the weightlifters, who feign death by injecting protein into their veins, while listening to "Reign in Blood" or something by Deicide.
(9 correctly spelled words in one sentence don't fit the saying.)

Ah, but now we're splitting hairs...generally it is correct, unless we have some strange pronunciation exceptions like reign....or what not.
