I thought it was pretty cool, that they don't take themselves all that seriously. They're having a good time with their legacy, and for the record, it's theirs to decide how they want it to be.

People complaining about bands going on too long, supposedly trashing their once sparkling legacy's, is pretty funny to me. I'm pretty sure that Pete and Roger, just like Mick & Keith, keep on doing shows because of only one reason: THEY LIKE IT. They enjoy getting out on stage and performing. It certainly can't be only for the money, but even if it was, not a bad way to make a living. That they have somehow come through the wild times intact and seemingly in great health and in great shape is not only miraculous, but downright inspiring. At least to me.

But I can tell you if it really bothered me, I'd just ignore it, like I do for countless other acts of all types.

    My .02.

Pete and Rog were fine. Fallon's the worst. Enough of the mugging and shoehorning himself into everything.

It’s just sad. Undignified! They can’t be that hard up for cash, can they?

Quick side note -- when I first checked out the video, I watched it without my glasses on.

I thought Pete Townshend was wearing one of those prisoner jumpsuits.

That was really funny, with a Townshend guitar smashing included! Thank to the OP for posting this, I enjoyed that a lot.

    whodanny The Who ! THAT'S WHO !!

This is one of those "OH ! Look at me, I'm so outraged ! " threads. For your information, The Who have always had fun with their music, always taken the piss out of themselves and always had humour in their songs. They are famous for goofing around, on stage and in the studio, and on TV. This is nothing new. I thought it was great fun, and so by the looks of it did Pete and Roger. If you want to be all po faced and insulted go off and do it, I'll take it for what it is, just a laugh.

I enjoyed it. Self-referential parody? It’s not like their touring like this. I enjoy seeing a lighter side. But yes Fallon can be quite distracting.

Ah, it's fun and having a wink at their legacy. I don't mind it, but I won't watch it again.

Maybe someone more familiar with the industry can correct me, but I don't think musical gets paid very much (if at all!) for appearing on late night talk shows, since it's free publicity for them anyway.

It's a humorous bit on a talk show...Other bands (like Metallica) have done it as well.

    Don't take life so seriously.

I can easily imagine that word as it was disgustingly snarled by many astonished elderly folk, grasping their collective monocles, when they first watched The Who performing on British TV.

It would really be embarrassing if they made a music video where they dressed up like old-time gangsters and threw cake at each other.

Fallon can be annoying, ok he is annoying, but that was good fun I thought. Everyone looked to be enjoying themselves. Sorry OP, I disagree.:p
