Just watched the Texas stream. Trey nailed the composed part of PYITE, which does not happen often. Some very nimble, fast playing on Birds and First Tube. He has maybe 75% of his chops back and is playing in a much different, more expressive and smooth style. Sort of a peaky Hood. Still flubbing time to time (NICU, Coil.) Amsterdam Box I've also been playing little by little. Some real weirdness on something they called Wormtown Jam. Great sound quality on this box. Saw the Forum show, which was quite a party. Martian Monster opener!
6/20/95 - Cuyahoga Falls, OH I've always liked Llama as the opener. The LivePhish version also includes the very unusual Set II from 6/22: Theme From the Bottom, Tweezer>My Generation>Tweezer>Tweezer Reprise. The Tweezer runs almost 45 minutes. http://www.livephish.com/browse/mus...0-1995-Blossom-Music-Center-Cuyahoga-Falls-OH
I listened to that Tweezer and the 6/20 Mike's -> Contact -> Weekapaug a lot back then on audience tapes.
Am I the only one who wishes there were other live compilations besides A Live One? Like something similar to the Dead's Road Trips series, or even just 'best of' type things from any given tour. I know there's so many things I've missed, but I just don't have the mental bandwidth to listen to and truly digest every live Phish release that comes out.
Still waiting for the Shoreline set to show up on The Spreadsheet, I'm really anxious to hear that one. Listening to Set II of Bend night 2, really digging the "Simple". Not helping with my regrets over not heading up to Alpine. Not to threadcrap, wavethatflag, but how amazing was the Rush show?
Yeah, but I'm thinking of something a little more ambitious...basically, like, what if there was A Live One for every tour? That album is still the best Phish listen because it's all from one six-month period, instead of mixing 1993 with 2010 and 1997, which really sound nothing alike. I guess I just go on a streaming site and I'm a bit overwhelmed with all my Live Phish options (not to mention the phish.in site)...not the worst problem to have, but i'm just saying, it'd be a cool thing. Although I guess at this point there aren't many 'casual' Phish fans left who'd be into such a thing.
I had some high hopes for this tour, and I have listened to every night, a lot of it from the live stream, and they have their moments but it just continues to reinforce that they are a pale shade of the band I once loved. I honestly have a hard time trying to understand what they are doing, but I guess that means I am no longer part of the target audience. I have been giving the Amsterdam set some pretty heavy listening, as well as most of the Live Bait 11. I was very happy more of the 6/15/95 was on there. I would like to see all of summer tour '95 released, not only because I saw 8 shows on the tour, but they were simply on fire and there were so many weird and surprising moments every night. Every Jim, Bowie, Tweezer, and Stash is worth hearing.
There is a lot us that feel the same way. If their career consisted of the last 10 years I am not sure I would be a fan.
I'm firing up Shoreline 7/25/15 again. I really appreciate the effort the band puts into the backing vocals of "The Line" in support of Trey. I'm sure I saw that song done twice in 2014, and they didn't nail it like they did on 7/25.
I was listening to Shoreline and I have to admit that I do like The Line. I know there was long talk of Phish writing a Pavement song, and that might finally be it. And I thought they played Dirt really well in Austin, not much else. Seems like that is a weird thing to say.
JEMP Radio. Good sound, tons of Phish with a mix of full sets, single songs (or a few segued tunes) and rarities. An occasional Dead track mixed in but mostly Phish. New shows are usually aired the day after the performance. http://www.jempradio.com/
Phish 2015-07-31 Aaron's Amphitheater at Lakewood Atlanta Ga Set 1 01.Prince Caspian 02.No Men In No Man's Land 03.Story Of The Ghost 04.The Wedge 05.Moma Dance 06.How Many People Are You? 07.Rift 08.Mikes Song> 09.I Am Hydrogen> 10.Weekapaug Groove Set 2 01.Kill Devil Falls> 02.Martian Monster> 03.Twist> 04.Back On The Train> 05.Reba 06.Bathtub Gin 07.Encore 08.Farmhouse 09.Character Zero
I just resubbed to LivePhish and listened to the two Atlanta shows. Huge Kill Devil Falls (!), a phatty Tweezer , and that closing one-two KO punch of Reba/Gin are certainly highlights. Lots else to like, too.
