In anticipation of the Arrowhead Ranch edition of Dinner and a Movie, I've been listening to this great show again.
I remember Trey did some sort of online release of the first set of the Chicago show, summer 2002, that I don't think is available anymore. If he released the whole show I'd consider buying it, since I was there. Some stuff from that show is on the Plasma double CD.
Is that the one where there's that short live CD of it available, I think, as a bonus disc with something?
Not sure. BTW I remember my friend who picked me up for that show forgot the tickets and we had to run to his house to get them and ran into the venue just as the lights went down, and in the first song Trey was standing there sort of marching in place and looking like a deer in headlights hoping the Phish fans would accept the new band.
No, that's from a 2005 Chicago show, it was bundled with Shine. I used to have it back in my CD days.
Also: Phish Announces Seattle November 1996 Live Archival Release Surprised they aren't releasing the DAAM 7/20/91 audio this week, but still this looks cool.
There was another DAAM that took months and months to come out as an audio release. Wonder what the holdup is/was. I could be wrong, but surely I'm not crazy for assuming if they have a webcast ready the audio isnt far behind?
I mean, we've got multiple shows from literally the previous week already, so it's not a huge deal. Was just a little surprised at the announcement, that's all.
12/31/93 Worcester The show that I just can't get through, lol. But not for any bad reason! Taken me a few weeks to get back in the swing of things and I replayed (and loved) set 1 the other day. Slowly working through set 2 and 3 this dreary, rainy, humid afternoon. Gotta say, this show knocks it out of the park - definitely going on my best-of-the-best for the year list!!! Great flow and great versions, secret language and Peaches En Regalia teases throughout Currently in the middle of Split Open and Melt. Will report back later...
I'm always interested in 1996 because of it's "underdog" status as a transitional year. Definitely hight on my "want to marathon" list
AND WITH THAT IM FRIGGIN DONE WITH 1993 FOR A GOOD LONG WHILE! My highlights list for 12/31/93 All around classic show, imo. If we didn't already have a great FM/sbd of it, I'd say this one absolutely deserves release. One of the best shows of the year, imo, and a wonderful send off to a wonderful year. 12/31 Worcester ** (Amazing show. Classic! Just top to bottom fun and awesomeness. PEACHES EN REGALIA. PEACHES EVERYWHERE.) Stash Ginseng Sullivan (Great full band acoustic version. Piano solo!) Reba Antelope (PURE INSANITY!) Tweezer (Plinko-esque quasi Type II, awesome jam) Poor Heart (HOLY ****!) It's Ice (PEACHES JAM!) Fee (EXCELLENT and spirited version!!!) Possum (MORE PEACHES! INCREDIBLE!) You Enjoy Myself (One of the best ever) Auld Lang Syne>DWD Theme The Lizards Suzy (PEACHES!) Greenberg Harry Hood (BLISS ORGASM) >Tweeprise
Just listened to the Mike's and Weekapaug from 6/20/95 (skipped the Contact in between). They played some weird stuff in 95.
Dinner and a Movie, man this show kicks ass already... GCH are just ripping it up. Gears Gerhard isn't here to mess around!
The Key Arena release is fantastic. Vintage 96 first set, Free doesn't stretch out as much as some of the other versions on this tour but the Theme is a top version. Down With Disease is powerful as Trey channels Jimi Hendrix for most of the second set, then DWD is reprised out of the 11/26/97-esque Tweezer Jam with a brief Sweet Emotion section.
Not sure if someone's mentioned the Phish Essays substack in this thread yet, but the writer has been reviewing Phish shows on their 25th anniversaries for a while (I think he started with '94) and now he is on the Europe '96 tour mostly opening for Santana. Some fun stuff since people don't mention those shows very often. Phish Essays
Someone here tipped me off to Rob Mitchum’s essays last year when it was the 25th anniversary of my first show. I’ve been a subscriber and reader ever since. Looking forward to the US summer tour reviews starting next month.
I haven't listened to it but I feel like his essay is more fun to read than the actual show is to listen to.
