Phono amp upgrade

When I talked to them, the Moon was rated as a excellent choice for the Lyra.
But the Moon was in stock at the time....I see there is a lag time at the moment, so not in stock.
Hmmm....

 

Listen to it before you worry about it using wall warts. And as for the external power supply, it doesn't need it. People just like to tweak and try other things. I have a Mytek Brooklyn DAC that doesn't need a LPS but people make them for it.

 

Just to be clear I'm no expert or greatly experienced in this area.
The guy at MD said to hook them up at the same time and just switch between them and go from there.

 

I was surprised by this and I asked his opinion. He liked it but thought the other two were better choices.

The Sutherland has been on my list from the beginning. It will definitely get a fair crack warts and all

 

Delivery is this Thursday.
Not sure when my TT will get here but I'll try them out with the Music Hall to get a feel for them.

 

Between those two I'm sure you'll find one to be a keeper!

 

Yeah, but, that's not his opinion, that's his job, which is to sell you whatever his manager has directed him to push for the day.

 

I'm not buying that. The Sutherland is a tried and tested amp. Wasn't the most expensive and the SPL came close is cheaper still.
He came across as genuine and knowledgeable.
Either way I can return them at no cost

Looks like seeing the tracking force on this Lyra cart is key to great sound. Are the cheap digital guages any good?

I bought my Sutherland Insight from him, so it's not a flavor of the week thing for sure.

 

You might be surprised. I have met the occasional arrogant twit of a dealer who seemed fuzzy on the concept.

The ones I've seen like that usually lift their noses at those they believe won't actually buy or will spend too little for them to care.

 

Update. Amps arrive tomorrow.

Amps arrived today. TT arrives Friday.
So I have the SPL hooked up as it's the easiest out the box.
Build quality is impressive. All the switches and knobs have a solid feel.
First impression sound wise is it's way better than my Mani. Surprise surprise.
I won't be going up the shelf till Friday as it requires more fiddling to set up.

So first impression is SPL beats the Mani........... well, that's earth shattering news
