Like many of you I'm sure, I am fascinated by and appreciative of the craft of songwriting. The ability to write a great song--especially one that connects with millions--is a wonderful gift. This thread is to celebrate songwriters who inspired other artists to record their material. Here's the thread:

    1. Pick a songwriter or songwriting team.
    2. List your 5 to 10 favorite songs they wrote performed by someone else. These can be covers or they can be songs they wrote specifically for another artist.

    That's it!

    Here's my example:

    Songwriters: The Bee Gees
    01. "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart" by Al Green
    02. "If I Can't Have You" by Yvonne Elliman
    03. "Grease" by Frankie Valli
    04. "Islands in the Stream" by Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton
    05. "Emotion" by Destiny's Child
    06. "Inside and Out" by Feist
    07. "Shadow Dancing" by Andy Gibb
    08. "To Love Somebody" by Rod Stewart ft. Booker T. and the MG's
    09. "More Than a Woman" by Tavares
    10. "(Love is) Thicker Than Water" by Andy Gibb

Got it? I'd love to read your own favorites.

Actually my first thought, and list, was made up of covers that were written by my "other favorite" - Sammy Cahn (Come Fly With Me, The Christmas Waltz, Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow), but I figured I'd resort back, as I often do, to the more surprising/less acclaimed option... :)

' A Hard Rain' s A -Gonna Fall ' by Bryan Ferry. By far my fave Dylan cover - a quirky , rockin' take of this vintage Bobby tune. Pure Ferry.

    Lennon & McCartney
' We Can Work It Out ' by Stevie Wonder. My fave Fab Four cover. Soulful. And ya gotta love those shouted out " Hey"s scattered throughout percussively. If percussively is even a word.

    If you like this ...
A few years back Mojo Magazine did one of their tribute CDs of The White Album. These tributes are very hit and miss usually but this one was quite interesting. There's a dynamite take of ' I Will' on it by a female artist whose name escapes me at the moment. Well worth hearing. Maybe someone could post it .

I'm a mega Stones fan, but Otis' version of 'Satisfaction' is absolutely my favorite version. He just slayed it and I love the horns!

I also love the Sundays' version of 'Wild Horses.' Those are my two favorite Jagger/Richards covers.
