My idea is to start with the year 1960 with the following basic rules.

    1. Name a song that has the year in the title or references that year in the lyrics.
    2. You can't jump forward just because you have a great song for a future year. :tsk:
    3. Let's stay on each year for 1 day.
    4. Any poster can post the next chronological year song after one day.
    5. Post a link if you want.

I'll start if off but please add other 1960 songs that fit this topic.

Pretty sure Bob Seger references the back seat of his '60 Chevy in "Night Moves"

I like it but it's not specific enough.

This looks like a tough thread to know enough songs for. There's no way I can do it from actual knowledge, but I can research online if that's OK.

For 1960, I had a google. I found a track by Gill Scott-Heron, an artist I'm aware of but wasn't too knowledgeable about. It's actually poetry rather than music, even though there is a beat. Does this fit the rules. Evolution (Flashback) by Gill Scott-Heron.

Initially I posted a song for 1961 as the first post said that after a day anyone can progress onto the next year. However, since others are still posting 1960 songs, I edited that out and will hold off.

Yes, it should be challenging. And by all means you can post your 1961 song. We can juggle a couple of year. I just didn't want 5 or 6 years going at the same time.

'1961' by Rude Vinyl and Rhythmic Groove.

It takes a fair while for this to start, and the vocals don't start until about 1:50 or so.

He does. He also sings “start humming a song from 1962” later in the same song.

I've been using lyrics.com to find songs. As well as typing '1962' into song search on Spotify. I've so far got songs selected all the way up to 2006, but my selection for 1962 was ... Long May You Run :D

As a rapidly found replacement, here is Philip Glass's '1962: Body building' performed by the Kronos Quartet. This is from their album 'Kronos Quartet Perform Philip Glass'.

Sting mentions 1963 in this folk-song sounding song. 'Shipyard'. Admittedly quite near the end of this long ballad, but it's there. :D

There's another very '1963' song that I'll post later if nobody else does.

Not quite, I think the implication is clear enough that neither the car nor the song is new at the time the action is taking place in the song.
