Nice find. You guys have gone way beyond what I thought was even available for 1986.

Well this year has far fewer choices. I found some songs but it took some time to find one I could listen to.

The song is by Destroyer-Watercolours into the Ocean

Halfway listenable "Hot Fudge" by Robbie Williams gives us 1988.

    "There's a green card and a way
    The holy ghost
    And the whole east coast
    Are moving to LA
    'Cause we've been
    Dreaming of this feeling
    Since 1988
Mother, things have got to change
I'm moving to LA, LA, LA"

    “1987” — David Kilgour

There seem to be a lot of international acts represented here, or should I say acts outside of the USA and the UK. David Kilgour is from New Zealand.

What if we skipped that year?
    The world would be better

Obviously this isn’t a new song, or it’d be called “2020,” amirite?

As am I. On behalf of all New Zealanders I will thank you for helping promote my mother country's music. :D Although, I'll point out that this post prompted some thought, and I've realised that I've spent more of my life in the UK than in NZ. Apologies for OT.

I've got two songs for today, but I'm holding back on the non-English language one as I don't want to be always posting music outside of the Western focus that the SHF forums have in general.

This is Milow with 'Herald of Free Enterprise'. My notes say: 'sounds folky'.

This is the legend of eight sisters, Herald was the famous one
It happened twenty years ago although the sea was calm
It was 1987 and winter nearly gone
On that Friday running late with rolling off and rolling on

I've noted that we have two different speeds with years. While I'm listening to and enjoying everything posted by everybody, I'm taking my lead from @AKA-Chuck G as to which year we are in, as he's the OP.

Thanks for posting this. It reminds me somewhat of the Church. I'm a big fan of NZ and Aussie bands. :righton:

I don't know the music of Steve Hillage well, and didn't expect this new wavey track. '1988 Activator'.

And, not really music but: '1988 Capitol Lake Jam Commercial' by Kurt Cobain.

“Losing My Edge” — LCD Soundsystem

This song is so freakin' brilliant and hilarious in the way it sends up every annoying rock snob and "too cool for school" music geek who fears he's not keeping up with the times anymore. Which, I don't know, maybe describes me to a 'T' these days but what the hell, I love it anyway. I'm usually not much for electronic/dance music, but this beat is insistent (it actually rocks), the singer's delivery is perfectly droll, and the "lyrics" are a perfect mash up of obscure but sublime rock 'n' roll name dropping and historical references.

The full-length version of the songs mentions the years 1962, 1968, 1974, 1978, 1985, 1986, 1987, and 1988... The video below is the single/radio edit and loses the reference to 1988, but if you follow this link, you will hear the line:

I woke up naked on the beach in Ibiza in 1988

from the full-length version of the song. But I wanted to link to this video of the edited version, because there's something about watching James Murphy getting slapped for four and a half minutes that makes it a compelling watch... :D
