Wow. Fascinating. I am not quite sure where a middle aged Clemenza would have fit into Godfather 2. Perhaps in the beginning in Reno? Bruno, playing the young version, was brilliant. Thanks for posting this.
Pentangeli is simply Clemenza renamed. It would have been much more effective if Castellano had stayed with the film, as Clemenza, once the loyal capo, would end up betraying the family as did Tessio.
I don't know if I agree. But it does explain something that has always bugged me about Pentangeli. I never understood where his character came from, and how he was so significant. Interesting take.
