I guess it depends on your player, but a lot of bluray players will play sacd. I know generally a sony or an oppo will

Somehow I fear there won't come a deluxe set at all.

I'm sorry mate. You should be able to pick up a reasonably priced sony that will do what you want ... still check for its listing no matter what you get/look at

is it confirmed this will be a multi channel SACD and not a stereo one with a deluxe set later to come?

    I believe so.
I read somewhere that Nick Mason said they were looking for more stuff to release, but the well was dry. I get the impression that anything else that comes may well just be remixed and remastered albums..... I was really hoping beyond hope that a mid to late seventies concert could be found, but I guess they weren't interested in documenting that part of the band.... I am assuming from what I have read that even if there are unreleased songs, there's a good chance they will stay that way.

SACD? That's not a way of getting to a wide audience.

How long ago was it when they first released the 5.1 Wish You? Bought it then.

Hybrid SACDs play on any CD player.

Yes, but not in sacd format, or 5.1

The only way to get to a wide audience is through the CD layer and hybrid SACDs have a CD layer.

Nothing is confirmed at the moment except the SACD from Analogue Productions.

Wouldn't Blu-ray get to a wider audience - with higher resolution AND surround?

It would be nice for them to move to bluray but perhaps they are looking for uniformity to their surround catalog, and figuring that people who want their music in surround would have the sacd capability already .... not sure really

it's funny .... I am not sure of the specs really, but sacd, dvd-a and bluray are all capable of reproducing sounds we can't even hear (and sounds most mic's can't even record) lol ... especially seeing as most of us are getting older, and only stubbornness would suggest our ears are as good as they were when we were 20 :)

SACD is Guthrie's preferred format and 100% his call.

I'd prefer hybrid SACD. You get everything you need - great stereeo, great surround, and a CD layer you can easily rip from. Don't need the visual component if its just a menu.

True. But both DSOTM and WYWH Immersion sets that include James Guthrie's 5.1 mixes are on Blu-ray and DVD. So it seems that either he agreed to have the Immersion releases on Blu-ray and DVD or it wasn't his decision to make. I tend to doubt it's James Guthrie's call on what format will be issued. I would think he would have input but the final call would be the band, the record label or both as to which format would be used.

You should have stopped with "True". Guthrie's format is SACD and has nothing to do with any other formats that are released in conjunction with the SACD.
