Back to Animals 5.1. Will it be a SACD release only with the 5 original songs or something more??

The SACD release will most likely be the original album and nothing more just like the previous Floyd SACDs.

The word from Facebook (and the new Acoustic Sounds catalog).
Animals is coming to 5.1 Surround Sound SACD in 2019.

I believe someone else mentioned that AP had a page in their new catalog listing all 3 Pink Floyd sacds. I received it a couple weeks ago.

Forgive me if this has been covered, but if I have the dsotm and wywh immersion blu rays, do I need the sacd if I’m a hi res surround pf nut?

Only if you're a completist or just like the different packaging. The hi res surround mixes are the same.

Thanks very much @rontoon - I’ve been researching and couldn’t figure it out.

These questions aren’t pointed at you, just musings.... At this point in the format, why wouldn’t they standardize and release blu ray audio instead of sacd? Sounds like I won’t be able to utilize Animals when it does come out since I just have blu Ray. Also, why not release meddle and division bell too since surround mixes are done? I love the music and their 5.1 mixes, just don’t understand their surround catalog strategy. Feels like disjointed dribs and drabs without follow through sometimes. If any band is ripe for the Crimson 2 disc surround release approach it’s Floyd.

Because it's James Guthrie's preferred format and apparently his call.

  12. This and that fact the SACD sounds superior to most audiophiles.

Can we expect a new 2.0 stereo mix on the cd layer of the Animals SACD? Same question for the DSOTM SACD in 2019? Thanks and happy new year!

It's been posted elsewhere but no harm in adding it again. If your player (or DSD compatible amp) has the capability, you could get the SACD to play the 5.1 layer but use the settings to down mix the surround output to stereo. Et voilà, a "new" stereo mix... :)

I don't have an SACD player. So, actually, when the album's new mix isn't even on the standard CD layer of the SACD I think I'll pass...

The majority BluRay-players is reproduced by all layers of SACD

I know, but I also don't have a Blu-ray player. Only a player/burner for the PC and an XboxOne.

Like I posted some weeks ago, I think that having chosen the SACD format is a decision that's going tomarginalize lots of fans.

I doubt that. It will come out on a hybrid disc, so at least you'd be able to play this on a conventional CD player in stereo. The target market for audio only surround is miniscule for both SACD and Blu-Ray. Remember BD-Audio?

But what if the CD layer will contain the original '77 mix...?

What is the original '77 mix and how does it differ from the last released remaster?

I can't picture those who can't play SACD discs buying this reissue only for the stereo remix (if it happens to be one included). It's ok with me, I can play SACD's, but I hope the 5.1 mix gets released on another media too.
