    Pink Floyd Captured Through Time

Spanning more than half a century Pink Floyd has rightly earned its place as one of the greatest rock bands of all time. From the early, experimental and often whimsical days with band leader Syd Barrett to the more expansive style with Dave Gilmour onboard, leading to the masterpiece Dark Side Of The Moon that elevated Floyd into the stratosphere. But success came at a price as personal relationships suffered, culminating in break-ups as eventually Roger Waters departed. But stadiums and huge arenas continued to welcome Floyd through the eighties and nineties with a brief reunion with Waters for 2005’s Live 8 event.

Captured Through Time is a photographic celebration of this truly iconic band that takes you on a journey from the psychedelic, avant-garde sixties to the present day including off stage shots of all band members during the 2000s including Syd Barrett!

Many of the photos have never been published in print before, including a sequence of shots from the Animals tour in 1977 that have only just been developed from the original negatives and digitally restored for this publication.

In total, over 100 glorious images of Floyd both on and off stage through the decades are included in this large format hardback book. Housed in a bespoke, custom-made, buckram presentation box with holographic block foil, it also includes 3 prints, ideal for framing and is strictly limited to 500 worldwide.
Hardback: 297 x 210 mm, 128pp, in a custom-made, holographic block foil presentation case with a set of 3 prints.

    Due May 10th, 2019.

  2. You had me at "Animals tour" -- but I'll confess, $80 (£59.99) seems a bit higher than I'm terribly keen on spending for a big coffee-table book, no matter how nice it is. And I'll also confess to being a little leery of any Floyd publication of Syd pictures from his later years. That's not an automatic disqualifier, but seeing that in the description doesn't necessarily inspire confidence.

Would like some feedback from someone with the actual book first. As my wife will tell anyone, the last thing we need is more books (that we don't have space for).

I agree. What gives me hope is that these are the same people who published 'Their Mortal Remains' which was glossy and well done. It also comes with three prints. I'll take a chance.

Did anyone get this and can comment whether it's a worthy purchase? Struggling to find any online reviews or pictures of the actual item.

Well I've ordered it as I saw it cheap enough to take a punt on so I'll post my thoughts when it arrives. Should be here by the end of the week.

The book arrived today. It comes in a thin black outer box with lift off lid that has some embossed Roman numerals and clock hands on it. There are three A4 prints of the band in action in the box along with the hardback book. The book itself is mainly photos with some large text print over the top of most of them. The presentation of the book has a rather cheap look to it inside and out, in my opinion, but has a number of photos I hadn't seen before.

The book starts off with chronological band photos and individual shots etc., then in more recent years the photos are public appearance and paparazzi type shots. What actually made me less than impressed with this book was that it features a large photo of Syd, very shortly before his death stood at his open door in a vest, clearly confused/annoyed, confronted by a man who was probably a reporter chancing his luck while the photographer evidently lurked in the background. That photo alone has soured my opinion of the book and is not the type of photo I was expecting. Those later years photos of Syd are for the tabloid gutter press and don't belong in an expensive book about Pink Floyd the band.

I paid £36 for the book, but personally I think without the box and prints, which are of little value, it is a £15 book if that, the type of unofficial book that turns up in discount book shops. Certainly don't pay anywhere near top price for it. There are far better books out there than this rather poor effort.

  9. Pics of Syd in his later (private) years is an automatic deduction. But "paparazzi"-type shots of any of the rest of the members of the band is a big downer (at least to me), too.

Perhaps if I ever stumble on a copy of this book in an actual store, and can look through it personally -- I might consider it. But paparazzi pics, and imposing on Syd's privacy are not of any interest to me (in the slightest).

There is also a photo of Rick Wright and his young son, one of Roger and his wife etc., personal images of no interest to me and not what I wanted or was expecting from a supposedly high-end book about the band.
