Thanks for that I have read that if you rip the disc and it sounds the same as the one you just copied on your computer, then the cd player /dac is not decoding pre emphasis
I liked the MFSL more than the Harvest and Capitol discs I had but I personally don't think any are as good as the 2011. Just my two cents. That's the sound signature I like though.
I did not vote as I only have heard and own the Doug Sax remaster and the Mobile Fidelity gold cd. Of these two I definately prefer the Mobile Fidelity.
May as well if for pure curiosity and the bonus live cd, and who knows which you will ultimately prefer. Also make sure to check the matrix of the Japan cd when it arrives as sellers are known to be a diverse/quirky bunch.
I am tempted as it,s cheap enough The seller assured me it was a genuine blackace non TO, he had 100% feedback but i will check also
It’s a needledrop of an original UK pressing done by a Russian group, made any official CD I’ve heard sound limp in comparison.
I have read in a few places the 2011 cd is bright and louder, im lookin at the 1992 20th anniversary cd too
Got my original harvest blackface jap cd today and had a listen, looked well cared for, give it a clean on the playing side with russ andrews reveel and the label side a squirt of relees, probably needs it after 35 years Russ Andrews - Hi-Fi mains and cable specialist First time i have ever heard DSOM on CD so not fully qualified to comment I had to crank it up quite a bit more than normal, is this normal for the original mastered version to be like this (no loudness wars in 1984 ) Seems to be nice tonaly and not bright, so my CD player (Rega apollo R) and DAC (Rega DAC R) must be ok with pre emphasis cd,s The detail is good and the Bass is nice and firm, it sounded slightly shut in and controled on my stax headphones, apart from certain parts on the album the soundstage widened out, i got the feeling of early compact disc sound, i would rather listen to this than a bright compressed sounding later CD Still not better than vinyl (what i grew up listening to this album on), but i get the feeling this is going to be a winner CD wise out of the rest
Was there anything specifically you prefer about it over the 2011? I like the MFSL for headphones. In the car, I listen to the 2011. Same with the MFSL of The Wall.
Zero mastering compression added and it does really need to be turned up to fully bloom to its full potential. It's really a statement CD that makes one aware of how good every analog and possibly digital sourced album could have sound if they hadn't starting puttering around with faster and easier production techniques.
