I played it in the car at lunchtime and kept reaching for the nob to lower the volume and the bass. I think I'm ready to officially state my dislike of these discs.

I figured the boosted bass on Animals would be an issue to some. It is a very different sound from the versions that have come before.

There's a big ballsiness to Roger's bass all over the DSOTM Immersion set on my system...and I  it !!!!

To hear Animals in that way intrigues me like you can't believe...

When I say "boosted bass" I mean bass as in bass vs. treble, not just the stringed instrument.

But yes, Roger's bass has some more prominence on Animals now.

I've got 7 or 8 LPs/CDs of Animals, and I sometimes over the years wish the bass was clearer, the stuff he's doing at the outro of Pigs, is swamped by the (great) guitar, but I guess that's a mixing issue isn't it, I'm not going to get that bass clarity by buying this new remaster.. ?

Well, it's a remaster, not a remix, so while different equalizing can make some instruments sound more prominent than others due to where they fall on the frequency spectrum, no actual levels of any instrument or vocal track have been changed here.

Yeah, I think a 5.1 mix of Animals would finally make me sort out a 5.1 setup at home, otherwise, I might as well stick with what I've got.

Really wish you had the 32DP...you could tell me if I could save $9.99:laugh: and just wait for the (hoping & praying) Animals Immersion set.;)

    Kidding. Sort of.

Can you advise which version between Shine On, OBTW, and Discovery is the definitive version of each. This is a very confusing mess to say the least.

No, finding the best mastering of a Pink Floyd album is a full-time life-long dedication ;)

It seems to me after reading various forums the general consensus is the best ones are the Sax remasters in the Shine On Box. Obviously the jury is still out on how these stack up to the 2011 remasters. However, Animals is different in some of the boxes? How do I know which version of Animals I have from the Shine On Box? I live in the US, so does that mean it's definitely not a remaster?

The US Shine On box contains the Doug Rax remaster.

IMO, there will never be a consensus of which versions are better (in regards to DS vs. 2011). It's too close to call. Even the most knowledgeable will have different opinions. It will ultimately be up to each individual's taste.
