He turned down "Country Song" for God's sakes - that's one of Floyd's best 'wilderness era' tracks!

Thanks to this thread I have collected all my ZP stuff together and it is a great set.

Disk 1 - official release with Roy Orbison and Rolling Stones added for completeness
Disk 2 - second disk of the Rhino set
Disk 3 - the lost album
Disk 4 - the official outtakes from TEY
Disk 5 - the rest of the outtakes
Disk 6 - the soundtrack versions
Disk 7 - a Pink Floyd only 12 song soundtrack
Disks 8/9 - Live material from Croydon, Paris, Birmingham and Sheffield
Disk 10 is the DVD of the movie

OK, there is some duplication and I have included the live AHM tracks to show development and pad the live disks out to 2 but I like it.

Don't qoute me but I seem to remember reading somewhere that some tracks were remixed from multitracks, not sure which one's or if it's even true.I would love a definitive list comparing the studio notes with what is out there.Weird as well is that the disc on TEY has room at the end yet not more ZP music that we know exists from other sources.

Then again, Barbet used "The Gold It's In the..." ~ in a movie about adventuring over the mountains and across the sea ~ for a makeout scene in a hut. What's WITH these directors?

All of the EY Zabriskie Point tracks are described as previously unreleased, but not all were "remixed in 2016":

(The liner notes etc indicate that tracks 13 - 16 ( Love Scene Take 1, Unknown Song Take 1, Love Scene Take 2, Crumbling Land Take 1 ) were not remixed in 2016.)

What is the significance of this, in relation to "vintage mixes" and "multis" and so on?

    .....Seriously?

One of the best songs on that album (next to "Wots Uh The Deal") and THAT's where it goes?! Good Lord.

I like Pink Floyd especially in the period 1969-1971, I have read for years reconstructions of the "Zabriskie Point" sessions, but honestly I understood very little. I think the biggest confusion comes from the names of the songs, often the same song with different names, then different mixes and other names, etc., I therefore ask the experts for help, a list of songs starting with this order:

    1) Zabriskie Point (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) 2CD
    2) Devi/ation CD2
    +
    3) A Total Zabriskie Point of View (Unofficial)
    4) Other Unofficial (eventually)

Indicating under each song the variations of names, duration, mixes, etc. in other CDs, example:

Crumbling Land (Zabriskie Point Soundtrack) 4:13
    Crumbling Land (Take 1) (Devi/ation CD2) 4.09
Crumbling Land (A Total Zabriskie Point of View) 5:55
Crumbling Land (soundtrack edited version) (A Total Zabriskie Point of View) 4:13

Unknown Song (Zabriskie Point Soundtrack) 6.01
    Unknown Song (Take 1) (Devi/ation CD2) 5.56
Rain in the Country (A Total Zabriskie Point of View) 7:00

this is just an example, but perhaps this way is more understandable. Thanks in advance :shtiphat:

Very useful, but shouldn't there be a note that "05" and "05b" are actually the same take? Just a suggestion.

You're absolutely right, but if I did I would certainly make many mistakes, but if someone more expert than me wants to add notes, specifications and other songs from bootlegs can do it without problems.

This is an evolution of the previous list, with all known tracks of "Zabriskie Point" and is based on the precious post of christian42 (#83) where you can find all the specifications (same track of... , alt. version, alt. take, alt. mix, edited version, etc.).
Obviously it is not a definitive work, but this is the best I can do. I put the official versions first and the timing of the tracks is the one that appears on the player.

Yeah, on "A Total Zabriskie Point Of View", some tracks are EQ'd quite differently than other sources - "Heart Beat, Pig Meat" sounds muffled compared to the 1997 Rhino CD.

This is more down to the bootlegger's own tinkering, though, rather than anything Floyd did. Likewise, tracks like "Country Song" are mixed differently there, because the bootlegger was going more for 'this is what a 1970 Pink Floyd album would sound like.'

Thankfully, not spoiling the song, though - a rival boot around the same time called "Another Zabriskie Point Of View" (by someone formerly with the outfit that made ATZPOV) added so much digital reverb to "Country Song" it spoiled the tune!

I was chatting to an author yesterday who worked for their label. He said they recorded an album which included absolutely no musical instruments. Just sound effects, elastic bands etc. But they shelved it the tapes. Anyone heard about this?

On Saturday 15th September, it would be fitting to take some time-out to listen to the Zabriskie Point tracks at length, especially those that allow Richard Wright to shine, e.g. The Riot Scene.

It will be the tenth anniversary of his passing.

La vallée is a great film, but except for the opening sequence, the music is not put to the best use. A far cry from Zabriskie Point, where Floyd's contribution is crucial to the final scene.

I was watching La Vallée only once before and I swear I could only recognize two of the soundtrack album's songs there.
Which were 'Obscured By Clouds' (used twice: in the intro and the end credits) and an alternate take of 'Burning Bridges'.

"The Gold..." and "What's the Deal" are both used as background music, more-or-less, with the former - if I recall correctly - being wasted to mimic generic rock music coming out of a car radio.

I remember 'Burning Bridges' was playing in the car radio. It was an alternate take/version, Gilmour sang different lyrics than what we hear in the soundtrack album.

Exactly. Same with More ~ great opening sequence, after that very spotty. The "Nile Song" being a hippy dance party record is pretty hilarious, though ; )

I've still never seen Zabriskie Point. Nice to hear he made good use of what he actually used ~ even if he left countless powerful pieces on the cutting room floor.

I mean, let's be honest - Antonioni was right about Floyd's score sounding "like church." XD (That describes a lot of the 'Love Scene' material!)
