In general, remix ... EXCEPT for 'On The Turning Away' With lame new drums (original were much better), uninspired remix and worst of all, alternate Gilmour vocals. Not the original My favourite song of the album ruined in such way. Why oh why
I voted for remix, but I seriously have to listen to it more, and with headphones, to make an in-depth comparison.
For me, some of the new remixes are hit and miss. Some of the others are great. My fave is how One Slip sounds now. Hearing Rick's keyboards swirling on that gave me a lump in my throat. Overall, I prefer the new remixes to the original version. But of course, I'll keep both.
I actually prefer the new version for On The Turning Away - this was my favorite song on the record back when it came out. In general, I think One Slip and, yes, Dogs of War are the most improved tracks from the remix.
Definitely the original. The remix has almost a deadness to it, maybe from lack of a sense of reverb. Usually I'm not a fan or remixes anyway, very seldom imo does it help.
Remix is wayyyy too heavy on the bass and treble for my liking, everything jacked up. Original is more sterile and canned-sounding but that was the style of the time, no getting around the production that's baked in. It feels more cohesive than the remix, if that makes sense
This album is a album featuring David Gilmour with external songwriters labeled as an "Pink Floyd" album. EMI still see their product labeled correctly.
Blah blah blah It's a terrible album but not because of the external songwriters. Bob Ezrin was an external songwriter on The Wall and Ron Geesin on Atom Heart Mother. At least the external songwriters on Lamentary Lapse were just lyricists. As far as I know, none of them wrote any of the Music, which is what matters. Not that it saves the album, but you know...accuracy...
You forgot the main thing: the music. Gilmour is a Composer, a Melodist. And records must have music. Poetry is for books. Atom Heart Mother is my favorite album btw. Because it's mostly instrumental.
Jon Carin gave their comeback hit in Learning to Fly - it was based on his demo. Pretty sure Bob Ezrin, Phil Manzanera and Pat Leonard also have music co-writing credits.
The question is what version do you like better. Whether it’s a real Pink Floyd album has been debated to death in a million threads.
