Thank you for posting this. Lovely to see Rachel Fury performing. God I had a crush on her when I was 15!
Just heard the remix and what initially struck me was how low the hi-hat is in the mix. Then I remembered that when I bought AMLOR in 1988, it was on cassette. As I would rarely switch on Dolby NR, the highs were more pronounced than what you would encounter on CD or LP. Never mind, the remix is good and yes, I like AMLOR as it was my first PF album. I was 15.
Not even a debate. The remix easily. Look, the original is very much a product of its time. It's 80's Floyd. But this seems more like Floyd would have sounded in the 80s if they didn't have the enormous ego of Roger Waters to contend with. For my money, Terminal Frost has been as alive as it is now. Same with One Slip, Signs of Life and Learning to Fly.
Tie. If I had to choose, Remix only because the keys are more prominent. Still sounds 80s to my ears. Just toned down a bit.
Every time I see an alert for this thread, I get filled with hope that it'll be news of the remix being released as a stand-alone.

The new remix works truly great on some tracks (On the turning away - I know, not the original vocals, but these live ones work wonders-, One slip), less on others (Learning to fly - the remix is way too "soft" for my taste, it lacks the oomph of the original). I'll be getting the single disc release for sure.
Changed my vote. Been playing the remix. And despite Nick Mason’s drums being subdued, I like Richard Wrights keyboards, the enhanced female vocals in Terminal Frost, and a cohesive band sound. Very happy with the remix! And I do like both.
I am hoping my remix arrives in the mail today. Can’t wait to hear on good speakers. I have only stream via Spotify so far
I just love how Side 3 of the 45RPM vinyl makes those tracks form into a 'suite'. I feel like I am appreciating the album more in this format. Remix for me.
Enjoyed streaming the remix more than I had ever genuinely enjoyed the album/era at all. I’m still not wild about the post-Waters era (not political, I don’t enjoy the two albums without him on a musical level, and haven’t since I was a kid who had no idea what Roger gave/didn’t give the band, but I do enjoy Endless River as a cool piece for background music, so, again, not “picking a team”, it’s simply not rung my bell, but I do keep trying because Floyd usually rewards patience). I like it, the remix. I don’t know the original mix like the back of my hand, so I don’t get distracted by nostalgia or anything, but it was (for whatever reason) a pretty decent time when I heard the new one. Always liked “On The Turning Away”, and now I like it more. Really dug the new “Sorrow”. Have no idea what they even did for “A New Machine” and I am only kind of kidding. I’m certain that I would feel different if I had spent a lot of time with the OG mix for most of my life. Since I always had a copy but rarely put it on, my take may not be helpful.
