Stereo for me I love the panning

I went with mono. I grew up with the stereo and loved it, but thought some of the stuff was awkward. I agree there is some cool panning, but nothing that makes the songs sound better... The mono just sounds "right"... It's something to do with British recordings in this time period, the mono mixes just are so much more focused and the stereo mixes sound rushed, overall anyway. There are always exceptions.

I have to go with mono, because the insane panning at the end of Interstellar Overdrive used to drive me up the wall. It's a lot easier to play guitar along with the song without all the back-and-forth hoosafudge.

I think the album is crazy enough musically and benefits from the grounded, centered (no pun intended) quality that the mono mix imparts.

It does sound rushed in the way that maybe someone forgot to slide a fader up at the start of Interstellar Overdrive? :D

I had the stereo CD for years and thought it was a stunning album, but as soon as I heard the mono version- it just made me feel "Now, THIS is it."

Interesting that the stereo can be, the mono is what I'd go for now.

imo the mono sounds a lot crispier and captures the mood a lot better.

I have to go with stereo, because the mono "Flaming" is unlistenable with all the noisy sound effects mixed too loudly.

I just voted mono, but some songs are better in mono, and others in stereo:

    Astronomy Domine - stereo
    Lucifer Sam - mono
    Matilda Mother - mono
    Flaming - stereo
    Pow R. Toc H. - mono
Take Up Thy Stethoscope and Walk - stereo
    Interstellar Overdrive - mono
    The Gnome - stereo
    Chapter 24 - mono
    The Scarecrow - stereo
    Bike - mono

Stereo for me, if the Floyd ever get around to putting out vinyl reissues, I wish that they would put out both versions as a twofer, same with Saucer Full Of Secrets.

  10. I agree with your list but would also include The Scarecrow in the mono collumn

The only reason I like The Scarecrow better in stereo is because of the percussion and the organ being separate.

I like both mixes for different reasons. I can't do this poll.

Mono, easy. And Syd had nothing to do with the panning.

I put interstellar overdrive in the stereo column.

I vaguely seem to recall the stereo of this track has some extra overdubs

I think it's the other way around, since the mono has the organ intro that the stereo doesn't have.

First thing that came to mind was A Nice Pair; but that's the 1st two PF albums in stereo.; not quite what you meant.....

Now I'm picturing lots of the LPs that were released in mono and stereo, reissued in double sleeves!

    :D

Always been the Stereo for me, this album really benefits it, especially Stethoscope and Bike.

I love both mixes, but as for some other albums from 1966-1967, I prefer the mono version.
Especially PATGOD sounds much more bizarre in mono, resulting by additional parts in the mix.

I'd welcome a stereo remix of this album as per those mixes on the Introduction to Syd Barrett LP. I thought they sounded great. Otherwise I vote Mono

The mono is a very cracking mix. I vote mono but love the stereo too because that is what I grew up with.

Maybe since there were 4 of them, it became plural.
