How about you? Please discuss.
I love it. And I have always wished they would have made a Vol. 2, since there are enough rarities and early quality tracks to make a great sequel.
It's great. I'd have liked an expanded CD version that gathered all the other stray non album tracks from around this time. There was an unofficial one but I never got it. The album flows very well.
I just saw Nick Mason and they made note this was many people's first Floyd album as it was a budget release. He's right...my first dive into pre DSOTM tracks and I still listen to it.
The "contraption" brought to life by Storm Thorgerson of Hipgnosis, from Nick Mason's original cover art, for later album covers. Wish I had a copy of it!
The boot LP Dark Side of the Moo was pretty much a Vol. 2. Not sure why they didn't do that officially.
The early issues of the album had "duophonic" stereo mixes of Arnold Lane and See Emily Play, which didn't sound bad to me. But I'm happy that the original mono mixes replaced them from 1996 on.
I love it but I've often wished that it didn't have the Piper and More cuts on it and rather had the rest of the PF singles from the Syd era. But that's kinda nitpicking, it's a great comp and one of the few comps that I own.
Thanks! The German issue is on Harvest and I surprisingly found it in excellent shape in a secondhand store for $5 about 10 years ago.
It was the only place we could hear the full-length version of “Interstellar Overdrive” . The original version that appears on Piper at the Gates of Dawn is edited down.
I own two Pink Floyd albums (both picked up second hand about a year ago) - "Meddle" and "Relics" My copy of "Relics" is incongruously on the Music For Pleasure label - usually the home of those easy listening albums that you find in every charity shop! It has the reprocessed stereo versions of Arnold and Emily. Should I have more Floyd? Probably, but these two will do for now.
Two of the first Floyd albums I heard were Relics and Works. Although the band wasn't involved in the latter album I think it also had a surprisingly good flow despite the weird segues ("See Emily Play" crossfading to "Several Species..," for instance).
The German and Holland Masters of Rock are different they have Candy and a currant bun and Apples and Oranges.
It is great, but it’s so much easier to make a Relics comp yourself now, with just single a and b sides. It goes much better alongside the first two albums.
