while I would think your wrong about that ,they were a top UK group for years ,but that's not my point ,They made there best lps without him,A Saucerful of Secrets is one of their best lps ,and is in no way lesser product because Sid was hardly involved

I wonder how many people saw that unboxing livestream few days ago. The Continu/ation box doesn't include any memorabilia at all, as long as I remember that, it's a bit different packaged than all the other sub-boxes.

So what's the best bootleg source?

  4. Piper is often cited as a favorite Pink Floyd album.

Still waiting for a frazzled Sydhead to listen to John Latham and offer an impression.

(Doesn't look like I'll get to hear it any time soon.)

I read a comment on Facebook about the same thing...this scares me. Not good.

They were two different bands. If your point is that Floyd was able to take the "second band" and achieve greater popularity in a completely different direction without Syd, you are correct.

But nothing sounds like Syd. In that respect, he was like Brian Wilson (and the mental instability and band exit of course).

Just because the Floyd recovered wonderfully, while the Beach Boys did not, does not take away from what Syd accomplished.

    Nothing unique about that.

So many acts have gone from obscurity to superstardom in just a couple of years.

Shame it's not the CD instead that's defective, would give them a chance to upgrade the sub-bootleg sources they used...

In what way did the Beach Boys not recover from Brian Wilson's breakdown?

They made some wonderful albums after the Smile period and they drew bigger crowds than ever before for their live performances from the early to mid-70s onwards.

Request: for those of you who have received your box, if you DID NOT receive the bonus OBC CD, could you please post who you bought your box from? Thanks much...

How did this turn into a Beach Boys thread?

In The Beachwoods is fascinating. A shame Syd never recorded a vocal.

Thank you for this, much appreciated! Gives us a much better idea of what's actually presented in high resolution. there's some questioning going on in the hdtracks thread so I will quote this there as well

  20. My box is still in transit so I don't have it in hand yet. However, the content you've listed above (Pompeii remix both on DVD/bluray and cd) is what is supposed to be included.

I didn't hear the CDs previously but how can someone figure out that this is coming from a lossy audio file?

When you rip the track and edit the WAV file, you can see that there is no frequency above 16.5kHz.
A file in 44.1kHz should have frequencies until 22kHz. So this track (Flaming from BBC) is lossy.

Hmm okay. Does this sound more worse than the one that was aired on BBC Radio 6 few weeks ago?

Frequency spectrum cuts off at 16khz, same as the original mp3 source of the (mostly) complete broadcast that has circulated amongst fans.

Luckily though there aren't any awful mp3 "underwater" compression artefacts present in the track.
