The division bell is recently re released on vinyl, isn't it?

And there’s already a precedent with the David Bowie Loving The Alien box including both the original Never Let Me Down and a remixes/re-recorded/revised edition.

This is one point I disagree with, Dark Side has almost a Timeless Sound, it would be just as good if it was released for the first time today as it did in 73.

Well does that mean, yes it was finished or yes it's lost forever?

  5. Yes.

It would be as good if it was released today but it sounds nothing like a contemporary release. It is brilliant from just about every perpsective. AMLOR is just not as good (but still has a great, albeit dated production).

I loved listening to this, especially "Another Brick in the Wall" with some simple tribal drumming on the tom-toms.

Sorry, I can't say anything but when the band started up again in the 80's they started to do a much better job at archiving their work.

So what you're saying is that they finished it, and then went on to lose it?

    :D

I knew it! I have to say that if it were lost forever, @rontoon would tell us that in a less cryptic way!

Rejoice! We will have a new version of AMLoR for the fans to beat on :D

I know many Floyd fans are skeptical of the Later Days, but for me, this is the single most exciting reissue project of this year, bar none.

I just hope Venice will be there too!

I don't think it sounded like a contemporary release in 1973 much less today.

Hard for me to say for sure because I wasn't born yet (and I don't say that to diminish the masterpiece that it is) but it has:
    - Relatively long pieces
    - Hammond organ
    - Saxophone solos
    - Analogue synths
    - Vintage r'n'b choruses
...which were pretty typical of the era.
It is timeless though, no doubt about that. But I'd say that its timelessness resides in the lyrics, the overall scope, the vision, the experimental parts, the exquisite arrangements, the great guitar solos, etc. It doesn't sound like it was dropped on us by some martians or something - to me it's pretty clear it's been made by 70s dudes from Albion ;)

Ugh, the wait is worse than waiting for Christmas Day as a kid (at least for me). So glad that we should be/may be getting the de-80s AMLoR. Plus original demos/outtakes from TDB. A restored DSOT film. This era has always been my fave outside of albums like Meddle, OBC, More, WYWH. Sure, Gilmour-era isn't a political wagon, but it still has the musical spirit/feel that I like about Floyd.

+1 me too @xFloydianXx i can't wait for the offical announcement and what is going to included in the box set. It's going to be so good and they better show footage of the new re-cut DSOT to tease us of what is to come in November/December

    I hope for:
    . 5.1 versions of the 3 studio albums from this era, on DVD and BD;
. the complete DSOT concert and the Venice concert on video.

Ah so! That's actually a new mix? Nothing jumped out at me as being new/added/subtracted, but I may need to give it another more serious listen.

Sorry to go off-topic but what is the most notable difference, if any?

Currently feeling underwhelmed and hoping to be pleasantly surprised. Having TDB box and TER BR I can only hope for some additional live material and a 5.1 AMLOR.

I genuinely can't tell from memory if there is any difference. It felt different but I couldn't say why.

I couldn't get past the first song, something got screwed up with the mastering.
