Dark Side rocks in some areas and is one of my all time favorite albums. Appetite really is a kick you below the belt rocker of an album. Appetite rocks!

I'm surprised at the invisible "missing elephant" in the room; "Eagles Greatest Hits 1971-75". Especially when you hear every six months about its sales numbers. And what of "Thriller" & "Rumours"? These lists get straaaange......

Although I love AC/DC Powerage it is amazing that it is 8th on the list of all time greatest rock albums.

I asked what your definition of rock was. Not for Ramones lyrics.

Not one Eagles album in the top 50. And I'm totally ok with that.

But Paranoid only made it to #20. Should've been at least in the top 3 imho.

Sorry, but "DSotM" is barely "rock". "Money" is the only track
    that qualifies.

    I'd give the nod to a compilation of Chuck's '60s re-recordings
or an early Stones LP before anything Floydian. And I LOVE PF.

So Dark Side of the Moon wasn't Ramones enough? Okay-dokey.

3 of the bands on that list have a definite punk influence in my opinion.

As for Dark Side, it is definitely top 2 or 3 to me.

At least the voters got the top album right!

I mean, there are other albums that I like better, but "Dark Side" strikes a good balance between being a popular favourite and also one of my personal favourites.

I don't think it is the all-time greatest album, but it is a great album.

Yet they've all got long hair. Stuck in the sixties, I tell ya.

Further down the list, presumably. As they should be.

What would you say is the all-time greatest rock album?

We saw Pink Floyd at the Hollywood Bowl performing it in it's entirety about 6 months before it was released.
We immediately knew it was special.
Remember later how we got tired of hearing it?
Inescapable, on the radio as much as "Heart of Gold", so much so that there was the inevitable backlash and it kind of became unhip.
Revisiting it now it has aged beautifully.

On Youtube there are these things called "first time hearing reaction" videos.
Often young hip-hop guys hearing "Dark Side" for the first time. They are always gobsmacked and love it.

  21. I suspect that many voters in the poll couldn't even name another Pink Floyd album.

  22. A Night At The Opera is truly a great album, movie hype or not, but movie hype and all other kinds of hype make all the difference in popularity polls.

Dave Gilmour has been quoted as saying he's always felt that Wish You Were Here was a better album than DSOTM. Personally I disagree with Dave.

Nevertheless, love it or hate it, there is no denying that DSOTM resonated (and continues to resonate) with a hell of a lot of people on the planet. It really says something to them. Something that goes deeper into the psyche than most any other work in the rock universe. Whether intentional or not that is a very difficult feat to accomplish.

Perhaps that is the most important reason why it belongs at the top of the list.

That's a regretfully common spelling error. They meant: "Split Ends" by the Move. That's how you spell it. S.P.L.I.T. E.N.D.S. by T.H.E. M.O.V.E.

It speaks to me, for sure. It says, “pass the spliff, Dave, this album is so far out... I love rolling up on this trippy cover... ‘Dark Side of the Moon’, heavvvvy...”
