And it's easy !! It's not 28 different steps, no laser pointers, measuring, marking, adjusting for wind speed etc ..... :edthumbs:

And recently I found combining the Waterloo Sunset test with Her Majesty test really helps with speaker placement.

Not directly related to testing a system, but I've just heard "Waterloo Sunset" for the first time this week and it makes me cry a lot.

This is a great little test, really easy and practical.

FWIW: One of the songs I used to set up my speakers is "Moving In Stereo" on The Cars. If the keyboards are floating around the room, I know I've got it dialed in!

Just listened to the Bangles' Eternal Flame. The background vocals are way behind me.

Some songs on the Small Faces self-titled 1967 Immediate stereo album have Steve Mariott's lead vocals well away from the two speakers.

One of the main reasons that phase relationships should be carefully monitored during the recording process.

Unless they did it on purpose.

Maybe. Hard to say what they had in mind at that studio. The stuff that came out of there always has me scratching my head..

I somehow ended up with a stereo mix of "Sunny Afternoon" that is hard panned, and doesn't fade at the end. It needs a more pleasant mix. But if all of these Kinks recordings have stereo counterparts, I don't understand why they haven't been made more available.

There IS a serviceable DES of "You Really Got Me" on YouTube.

I believe that hard panned Sunny Afternoon is an alternate version on the Deluxe edition of Face To Face, done by Andrew Sandoval.

You wouldn’t believe how hard it it is to find a stereo copy.

Why would that be? It’s not on CD anymore?

It might very well be but on every CD I have featuring the track it’s in mono - as well as ALL my (many) vinyl copies.

I used this method when I set up my speakers earlier this year. Or to be more accurate, I did towards the end of setting up which was a much to test / verify that I had them set up correctly. What an odd and trippy experience! I need to listen again soon but it is pretty wild.

I'll try it soon, Steve. I luckily found a -NM copy of Something Else on ebay.

    Hi Steve:

Any positioning suggestions for those of us who have Magnepans?

The usual position recommendation is 4 ft off the walls, 6ft apart and a little toe in.

Some say the tweeter ribbons should be on the outside, others say on the inside.

I just did the test and the background vocals sounded good with a strong soundstage.

I have the tweeters on the outside. I'll play with the tow in/out later.
