It would be cool if Steve would play and record a show of all pre-Joker material.

E="John Fell, post: 17992029, member: 37428"]I actually like the song Rock Love but they hardly ever include it on any early compilations.[/QUOTE]
Never dug that one but the Recall LP is great from beggining to end.

Yes but he would have to include Boz to make anything from Children& Sailor sound right.
Boz was a major contributor to the early SMB sound.

It wouldn't sound like the album versions anyway. You can listen to the updated versions of some of the early songs on the new Ultimate Hits 2 cd set to see how it would sound. It would still be ok with me to hear updated live versions of the early songs because he doesn't play many of them very often these days.

    From Children of the Future:

    Children of the Future
    Baby’s Calling Me Home
    Steppin’ Stone
    Junior Saw It Happen
    Roll With It
    Fannie Mae
    Key to the Highway

    From Sailor:

    Dime a Dance Romance
    You’re So Fine
    Overdrive
    Lucky Man

The missing songs from Children of the Future are the best recordings of Steve Miller’s entire career, in my opinion. To me,
Steppin’ Stone is the single best recorded performance of Miller’s career.

Some of those appeared on the first disc of the Steve Miller Band box set. I like Baby's Calling Me Home, Steppin' Stone, Junior Saw It Happen and Dime A Dance Romance quite a bit. The covers are cool too.

It seems like Steve Miller does not include songs on which Boz Scaggs made a significant contribution, in his live shows or on his anthology albums. That is too bad because some of the songs also have some of Miller’s best recorded moments—such as the guitar solo on “Steppin’ Stone” for instance, which I just love.

The re-released "Living In The USA" single made me a fan, I asked the Capitol promo rep for a copy of "Anthology" and he gave me 2 copies 3 weeks later. Then the station program director clearing out his office shelves, got me the original parent albums pre "The Joker". Ever since, I've loved them.

They're both good collections, but Stevie "Guitar" made awesome albums between 68 and 73--pre Fly Like An Eagle--and both collections are missing key tunes. The following is material I'd want on a pre 75 S.M.B. compilation:

    - "Motherless Children" from Your Saving Grace.
    - "Roll With It" from Children Of The Future.
    - "Song For Our Ancestors," "Livin' In The U.S.A.," and "Quicksilver Girl"--all Sailor.
    - "My Dark Hour" and "Space Cowboy" from Brave New World.
    - "Jackson-Kent Blues," "Goin' To Mexico," and "Industrial Military Complex Hex" from #5
    - "Blues Without Blame" (live) and "Let Me Serve You" from Rock Love.
    - "Enter Maurice," "High On You Mama," "Fandango," and the "eponymous" track from Recall The Beginning...A Journey From Eden.

Miller's post 75 albums are excellent, slickly and intelligently produced studio products--and while they have their share of great moments, Miller's pre 75 catalogue is often overlooked. Too bad because there's very good stuff to be had here--and 1972's Recall The Beginning...A Journey From Eden is surprisingly good.

I don't have either, since I have the first 5 albums.

Those first 5 albums are the only Steve Miller Band in my collection.

Considering Anthology has a few songs edited, you certainly do!
