    Not about the futility and stupidity of man made war or an individual death unlinked to another or unlike either of the above topics covered on this LP....... apparently political.

    Not just stark or dark but a real living nightmare (rendered into song) you cannot wake up from.
    The heplessnes is more than palpable, there appears no God on anyone's side and we are left hanging with dread at the inevitable outcome.
    The land can't sustain the family and there is no help forthcoming from nature or man and just as the horrid tragedy occurs we hear that it's just a pattern set onto the rails of the future and programmed for repeat!

    Excellent post. Agree that it’s a great song – not despite but because of its bleakness.

    Thank you, I still remember the immediate impact this had on me upon hearing it 35 odd years ago and I am not sure I have heard anything comparable since.
