On Every Street is a good late night album. Unfairly criticised over the years I feel.

Gotta go with the first one. It's the one that I was mesmerized by, but those first 4 albums are all brilliant.

The debut is great and one of the best recordings I have. However Love Over Gold tops it for me especially side 1 (Telegraph Road/Private Investigations). It's my most played DS album.

    Top 3:
    Love Over Gold.
    Dire Straits.
    Making Movies.

Love Over Gold, for me. One of the best side 1s in rock: Telegraph Road, and Private Investigations...perfect.

I only have this one on vinyl, so time to fire up the TT today.

Hands down, Love Over Gold. The atmospheric title song is gorgeous and Industrial Disease still brings up fond memories. The other albums are great, too.

    "Communiqué".
Also enjoy the S/T debut and On Every Street.

Communique. The second (and last) in the "classic" Dire Straits style befoe Knopfler began to stretch out, and (to me) an improvement on the debut.

Making movies. Romeo and Juliet is just a superb track. I'm not really into dire straits but I adore that song. Just one of those perfect songs.

Brother in Arms was the first contemporarily popular album I recall buying. It is my fav for that reason alone. I understand the love for S/T and Communique (which repays repeated listening) but I really love the whole catalogue including On Every Street which is a fine album always going to struggle in the grunge era. All the live sets are also great. I must be a fan.
