Maybe as with Star Trek and Hitchcock someone might host a film by film chat??

Normally I would have voted for From Russia With Love. It was my first Bond film -- saw it in its first week of release on the big screen in 1963, back when screens were big. Not many movies began with 10 minutes of excitement before the opening titles like that. Man that was heady stuff. After all these years, I don't think it plays quite as well now but it has always been No. 1 on my list.

Then Daniel Craig came along with Casino Royale. I think his Bond is better than Connery. :hide:
But then Quantum of Solace was a big disappointment, and Skyfall, while very good, wasn't as good as the critics' reviews.

I have this fondness for "You Only Live Twice" - the theme song is mesmerizingly good and I've been to Japan several times in some of the same spots as in the movie - and what isn't to like about "Little Nellie"!

I think Goldfinger worked the best overall as a film and as being faithful to the novel, but I'd also pick You Only Live Twice as a sentimental favorite because it was so outrageous and so completely silly... and completely different from the novel. Both are very interesting films.

A buddy of mine still uses that line "Clear the area! Clear the area!" from You Only Live Twice, as they're getting ready to shoot the rocket out of the volcano. (Like nobody's going to notice a giant rocket being shot out of a volcano in Japan.) The Simpsons did an entire episode about the people who worked for an evil organization like SPECTRE, and where all the volcano workers would live, go to school, buy groceries, and stuff like that -- just hilarious.

    Gaaaaaaaaa! Worst. Bond. Film. Ever.

Live And Let Die. First Bond film I had ever seen, and it was at the cinema. Plus a great theme song!

It has to be Goldfinger - although From Russia With Love , The Spy Who Loved Me & Diamonds Are Forever (best theme song) are very close. I'm also a big fan of the much maligned OHMSS - good to see it getting some votes.

Looking at the Dr. No poster, it led me to conclude that Bond films are no more risque today than they were in the 60s. Maybe even less so.

I would take Moonraker over Octopussy, A View To A Kill, The Living Daylights, License To Kill and every Brosnan film. And as much as I enjoy the campiness level it's probably also a better film than The Man With The Golden Gun.

Much more risqué in the 60's considering everything. Remember the names the women had. You just didn't her that all the time.
