That actually was the plan. Peter Hunt wanted to end OHMSS with the DBS driving off from the wedding, and then open the next film with the hillside conclusion as the teaser for what would have been a completely different and hard edged Diamonds Are Forever with George Lazenby as a 007 completely off the rails. In the cinematic world of 1971, I completely picture a bearded Lazenby gone rogue on emotional and psychotic rampages with a definite death wish perhaps with the doubles motif in the DAF we know, so that the trick reveal of the real Blofeld would be a genuine and emotional shock.

Sean was to darn old in DAF ( pink shirt.. wha).At least he gave his fee to charity.

  3. OHMSS is my favorite. Great plot, great villain, beautiful cinematography. I think if Connery had been in it, it would be considered one of the best by most people.

From Russia with Love is probably the best, and Goldfinger perfected the formula, but I probably watch the first one the most. It makes you appreciate Connery even more, he really carried the entire future on his own shoulders. In that respect, it has arguably the best lead performance, and the one film that's almost completely dependent on it.

Except they gave the part of Bond to a male model with great physicality who couldn't act his way out of a paper bag . I'm still confounded when I think of the ridiculous risk they took in casting Lazenby. Crazy.

There is more acting on display than the alternative of watching Roger Moore / Sean Connery playing themselves. I do wish they hadn't looped George Baker's voice for Sir Hilary, though, as that undermines it.
For me the outstanding part of OHMSS is the script. There are some really good lines in a lot of the scenes (and you don't need to be a JB Fanboy to appreciate them) especially between Draco/Bond, Blofeld/Bond and Bond/Tracy. Lazenby delivers his lines with some aplomb, but I enjoy his physicality as Bond.

As others have said, the pre-title sequence is superb, especially how they keep his face shadowed, until the reveal ("Good Morning, my name's Bond"). Aston Martin, Trilby hat, cigarette and telescopic sights..too cool. Even the Bond theme has an extra swagger!

He was still only 41 - and Moore was 46 when he made his first Bond movie. 58 when he made the last one!

Could be - I'll admit he didn't look that great for 41. Diamonds Are Forever is perfect - and as much as I liked Lazenby in OHMSS,I'm glad they resurrected Connery for this one.

Charity is good thing. But I would have preferred the younger GL in a Diamonds ' which was more a black comedy with Connery, than a lean mean suave quintessential Bond that Sean defined about a decade earlier. Ironically a older actor was to play 007 a couple of years later. :)

I love the first few with Sean Connery, and love the Daniel Craig ones.

Casino Royale and Skyfall my favorites.

I hate to say this, but the Connery movies, while loved by me and mostly great, are seeming very old now, quite dated.

Not that it makes them worse to watch, but I keep catching myself, thinking about how old things look or seem etc.

    Ooh, can I nominate a write-in vote? :-D

1992's Bollywood Bond flick starring Akshay Kumar! Not only does it have a singing and dancing 007, but the entire opening scene is plagiarized from "Never Say Never Again", the villain is the most ridiculously evil individual ever (like, killing babies... just 'cause), and Bond murders him in a FAMILY WATER PARK and just calmly walks away, leaving him in a wave pool. Now that's bad-ass. :p

Thunderball is where it's at for me. Entirely plausible plot by Spectre, nothing superhuman, the hottest Bond girl, scuba fights, and a jet pack. What else could you possibly ask for?

I counter back with an eye-patched villain, the super-awesome line "I think he got the point" after nailing Vargas with a harpoon gun, and the fact that Never Say Never Again is basically a re-do of Thunderball.

I like the Sean Connery and Roger Moore films the best.
Just don't have the passion for Bonds films since they left.

Been to Jamaica twice this past year next time I might stay at Golden Eye the home of Ian Fleming where all the James Bond novels were written.
It has since been turned into a resort for the rich and famous.
