    You have chosen wisely!
    I agree with you!

And yet, I really like War Heroes!
I consider it essential, maybe we'll get a reissue some day.
I would love to see a 2 disc EH edition of Nine To The Universe. Disc One: The original album. Disc Two: The unedited tracks. Not sure if the unedited version would fit on one disc (certainly not on vinyl).

Burn a hole in your credit card!
Buy everything with Jimi's name on it right this second!
Nah! I'm just kidding! We all have to watch our money.
Better yet, let me watch it for you!:)
Remember, there's always a new release, just on the horizon.

Probably in the grand scheme of things it is Are You Experienced?

But my personal favorite is Electric Ladyland. A truly trippy and monumental double!

And only housed in the "nude cover" please. :) Despite Hendrix himself not being fond of it, that cover is an eye-opener and representative of the times as much as the music within! I'm not a fan of all the other alternate covers that try to "revise and erase" the impression and controversy of the original cover. It doesn't seem right watching "Casablanca" in color, and it doesn't seem right listening to "Electric Ladyland" without the "electric ladies"! :D

Gotta give it to Electric Ladyland, a sprawling masterpiece. Really makes me bummed knowing what great things we could have missed out on.

I'm biased but IMO, it isn't as good as The Whos Tommy, Who's Next and Quadrophenia.

Anyone else think Electric Ladyland is bloated and should have been a single album?

Nice version of SCM, but it came out first on a CD single when the EH Winterland box came out. I have the single and took a pass on the reissued Purple Box as I already had the original.

I can't believe Electric Ladyland has five votes more than Are You Experienced? does!
It has some fantastic moments, sure (Voodoo Child [Slight Return] immediately comes to mind, and then All Along The Watchtower),
    but overall it can't compare!

It shouldn't be that surprising. Many fans consider Electric Ladyland to be Jimi's magnum opus.

True, the first one should be prioritized by a newish fan.
What material do you find uneven on WCSB?

True, but it was really no surprise that WCSB couldn't live up to the purple box. They had a smaller selection of tracks to choose from.

The fact that the first disc is Jimi as sideman makes it uneven right from the get-go.
I wish they had saved these tracks for a different project, putting them together with Curtis Knight and Lonnie Youngblood recordings.
They could have even called that project "Jimi Hendrix As Sideman."
It could have been released as a Jimi Hendrix album and made it clear by the title what the customer would be getting.
    But.....
I don't think they have the rights to the Youngblood stuff, and didn't get the Knight recording rights until after this release.
This turns this box set into a kind of Jekyll & Hyde affair.
If they had replaced the first disc tracks with some well known outtakes and live recordings (let's say more Winterland, to go with the Fillmore tracks), they would have improved the product considerably.

Of course, they are probably saving some stuff for the next box set!
    I say: "Bring it on!"

I'm one of the few Hendrix diehards who's obsessed with Jimi's pre-frame career, so I was also disappointed in the first disc. It was a missed opportunity; they didn't spend enough energy or research on it; you can tell Kramer and McDermott don't really care.

Yeah, it's probably a case of "Let's get this out of the way and over with and get onto something else.
Jimi is their "cash cow," so I think they care...about the money anyway.
I am also interested in his early work.
Unfortunately, it's kind of looked at like an embarrassment. It's not necessarily bad music, it' just not what he's known for.
There's far worse music out there.

Massively overrated artist. Technically hugely adept. Poor vocal delivery. Best guitarist of all time. The man is an enigma. To me the best album is Axis. EL is bloated and self indulgent in too many areas. The debut runs a very close second to Axis.

I picked up 2 albums and both of them blew me away. (Blue Wild Angel, Machine Gun)

I've yet to pick up "An Evening With Hendrix" but it will be in my possession by the end of the week.

Man, the version of "Machine Gun" from his Live At The Isle Of Wight performance is mind-numbingly good!

As much as I enjoy both of these releases, neither of them can hold a candle to Live at Berkeley, IMHO.
