Lots of great choices here - my personal favorite on the list is Deep Purple "In Rock"

  2. Absolutely - his poll, his business.
But... if the goal, as originally stated, was to sort of take over the helm & continue what was previously being done...

Then minor variations (including live albums or not) are one thing... not actually adhering to the criteria being used as the centeral qualifying factor is another matter altogether (calls into question the internal validity/ integrity of the process)

Again, the choices are the OP's sole realm, but... if they aren't going to really be based on the numbers from the stated sources... and instead, be "mostly/sort of" based on those numbers/sources, but somehow then combined with the OP's own personal taste/choices- just be clear on that.

BTW- for the record... I am a gigantic fan of Captain Beefheart and the many versions/variations of The Magic Band!!

I promise I won't do this again; this is just to show that the vast majority of my list would have been the same, according my criteria (averaging the two highest positions of Top 30 albums from the three sources).

My Top 25 for 1970 would have resulted this way:

    Paranoid (Black Sabbath)
After The Gold Rush (Neil Young)
Bridge Over Troubled Water (Simon & Garfunkel)
    Plastic Ono Band (John Lennon)
    Moondance (Van Morrison)
    Bitches Brew (Miles Davis)
Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs (Derek & The Dominos)
All Things Must Pass (George Harrison)
    Fun House (The Stooges)
    Cosmo's Factory (Creedence Clearwater Revival)
Déjà Vu (Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young)
    Live At Leeds (The Who)
    Led Zeppelin III (Led Zeppelin)
    Abraxas (Santana)
    Loaded (The Velvet Underground)
    Black Sabbath (Black Sabbath)
Deep Purple In Rock (Deep Purple)
    American Beauty (Grateful Dead)
    Curtis (Curtis Mayfield)
Tea For The Tillerman (Cat Stevens)
    Let It Be (The Beatles)
    Sex Machine (James Brown)
    Workingman's Dead (Grateful Dead)
    John Barleycorn Must Die (Traffic)
Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out! (The Rolling Stones)

And if we exclude the live albums by the Who and the Stones, the two last positions would have been:

Lola Versus Powerman And The Moneygoround (The Kinks)
    Sweet Baby James (James Taylor)

So the only difference is that my list (if I hadn't included live albums) would have included Loaded, Let It Be and Sweet Baby James, instead of Sunflower, The Man Who Sold The World and Lick My Decals Off Baby.

    From the list:

    Plastic Ono Band
    American Beauty
    Lola
    John Barleycorn
    Workingman's Dead

Thought about picking from the list:

    All Things Must Pass
    Black Sabbath
    After the Gold Rush
    Deja Vu

Inexplicably missing from the list, i.e. you picked Captain Beefhart above?:

    Home (Procol Harum)
In the Wake of Poseidon (King Crimson)
    Benefit (Jethro Tull)

Is the the only 70s list the OP will post?

If so, I can’t vote because none of my top 5 70s albums are there.

    What a stellar year!
I selected: Bridge Over Troubled Water, Cosmos Factory, American Beauty, III and Moondance but...yeah, could easily have checked others.

And didn't have the option for Stage Fright, Fire & Water and His Bsnd and Street Choir.
