One of those years where there are so many classic albums...it might actually be the peak year for rock music.

    So...
    LZIV
    Who's Next
    EPTAS
    Surf's Up
    Bryter Later

But I could have had Marvin, Can, Joni, Bowie, Funkadelic...

And that's leaving aside the Weather Report s/t, Wayne Shorter's Odyssey of Iska, Miles' Jack Johnson, John Martyn's Bless The Weather, Duke's New Orleans Suite, Flamin' Groovies Teenage Head, Mike Gibbs Tanglewood 63, Mahavishnu Inner Mounting Flame, Patto Hold Your Fire, Pharoah Sanders Thembi, Sanyana III etc etc...

Easily my favorite year of the '70s, but I guess that's because of some great albums by favorite '60s artists.

    My votes:

    Who's Next
    Sticky Fingers
    L.A. Woman
    Imagine
    What's Going On

    Wish it were here:

    Muswell Hillbillies (The Kinks)

This book came out last year purporting 1971 as the greatest year in the history of rock. Good book, it has a list in the back that's much longer than the albums listed in this poll.

Might be fun to do a now and then for us geezers to see what's held up. Picking five from even this short list is impossible to be fair. A lot of this has aged pretty well.

    Three great albums here:

Tea For The Tillerman (one of my all-time faves!)
    Every Picture Tells A Story
    Fragile

Some of the others are decent but, not for me at least, great.

    A couple of super non-list '71 albums:

    Jethro Tull - Aqualung
Graham Nash - Songs For Beginners

Could list loads more, Excellent year, 1971.
