Very solid effort, but a bit too soft and slow to recommend. You really need it if you are a Paul fan, but it's not going to pull in someone who doesn't know his stuff otherwise.

If there could be only one post Wings album to get the super deluxe archive treatment, then my vote would be for Flaming Pie.

I rated it one of his best. Most def a comeback album for him in the early 90s, the 90s so long ago. World Tonight is a classic Paul number that he should play again live.

One of Paul's best solo efforts. There are a couple clunkers ("Really Love You"), but the best songs on the album -- and there are plenty of them -- are just glorious. It's sad that Linda's illness kept him from touring with it.

What on earth is wrong with "who won the match or scored the goal"? It gets his point across beautifully. "Somedays" may be his best set of lyrics since the Beatles. Paul has written some junk lyrics, but "Somedays" is a masterpiece.

    Solid album.

I have to agree. "Somedays" wouldn't be out of place on a Beatles album and probably would've been a nice companion to "In My Life" somewhere in The Beatles catalog.

I completely agre with you that Paul has written some junk lyrics.

They were on his first solo album.

    With an instrumental version too.

This is a really good album. Not perfect, maybe, but almost great. More importantly, it began his late career renaissance. He's been fantastic with nearly everything ever since.

And, as said before me, when this album is great... it's really great. It has some high peaks.

Essential, I consider it in the top four or five Paul post-Beatle albums.

Perfect. This album is full of great songs, and even the "filler" tracks work out to make a complete statement. Flaming Pie is a good example of a rock/pop album as art.

Am listening to it now after reading through this thread...and this is one fine, fine album. I'm just two songs in and The Song We Were Singing and The World Tonight are terrific.

I guess I need to check out Tug of War as this seems to be the album most recommended here (outside of his first two, which I love, and Wings).

Somedays...this could be a Beatles song. Excellent.

    Well, back to listening.

You will find opinions rather polarized here. I love both Tug of War and Flaming Pie, and in general think his stuff from the last 20 years is vastly better than Paul's '70s output -- and plenty of folks here think that opinion is sacrilege.

A pretty solid album [that could have been great with a few edits]

My edit would be about 41 minutes and would be the album in the same order but without :
Young boy (2/5 song just kinda cheesy)
Used to be bad (0/5) terribly bag and cheesy--I don't care about miller but the failure on this song ain't due to him
Really love you (0/5) Ringo didn't hurt it the song is just very blah

    Without these 3 u get a masterpiece

Great day is my favorite tube but

    Little willow
    Souvenir
    And calico skies are amazing

    My edit 4.5/5
Reg album with the duds 3.5/5

This album has clearly been one of the few ''growers'' from Macca's catalogue for me. And the only post-1980 album that finds its way to my system on a regular basis. I think it's at least on par with Tug Of War; "Heaven On A Sunday" is one of the greatest 'deep tracks' ever!

I've had Flaming Pie since it was released but I guess the downside of having a lot of music (though a tiny fraction of what appears to be the norm on this forum) is putting it aside and not hearing it again for years.

Sorry Paul, I like rock music. This derivative wash of weed-hazed acoustic mush doesn't hold up.

Really Love You is just an on-the-spot jam and sounds like it, but I disagree about "Young Boy." It rocks, but has a very pretty melody and a good lyric. For me, it's one of the album's high points.
