I recall after such a lengthy break (after Off the Ground) it was welcomed with open arms.
By the looks of the poll results most people will disagree. that's fine. maybe I should listen to it more.

It seems like the Anthology project gave him the focus and confidence to make one of the best efforts of his solo career. Essential listening for me.

Flaming Pie is my hands-down favorite McCartney solo album. No close second for me.
Got lucky and found a near mint vinyl copy in the shrink last year for only $10. :D

Interestingly, one of these very copies is a new listing on eBay:

It would be interesting to learn how this copy, which was the property of Graham Nash, got in the hands of someone willing to sell it. Did Graham give it to David Crosby, who then traded it to some cocaine dealer, etc., etc., until it is now on eBay? It's weird how this stuff appears.

It would also be interesting to find out who all 200 of the "extremely groovy" people were who received this gift.
So far, we have Julian, Mitch Mitchell, and Graham Nash. 197 more to go...

    And how many Linda signed.

I wonder if Yoko missed the cutoff?

I wish I was able to enjoy this album as much as you guys do. :sigh: I did, however, enjoy "Off the Ground" very much.

I would love to see a Deluxe Edition of this with demos, B-Sides, etc.

I got into The Beatles through the Anthology releases, and this album was designed to capitalize on the success of those. Paul was clearly going for a Beatles sound on the record, and in some cases it works very well. However, listening to it again recently, it was clear how lightweight many of the songs were, like they were echoes of his time with The Beatles. If this were 1997 I'd say it's one of his best, but now it's just okay, with some standout tracks sharing space with forgettable songs and that wretched Steve Miller collaboration.

Yeah! I became a Beatles fan in 1994 so I bought Live At The BBC, Anthology 1, Flaming Pie, and 3 or 4 of the Beatles' proper studio albums all within a two year period. That was a fun time. :)

Wonderful album, with some filler (like the Ringo track), Used to be bad, and If You Wanna.

One of his best. Top five. He clearly had a lot on his heart on this album, coupled with a friendly jam or two that makes it kinda homey and not too serious.

Paul records mostly half albums, where half the songs are good and the other half, not so much. There are of course, exceptions (Band on the Run, Ram, McCartney I).

This one is no different, but it is better than average because the good are among his best and the bad aren't among his worst.

A solid effort, but could be a little shorter. Suffers from the CD bloat of the time.

Interestingly, he has pulled out a tune or two from this album to play live -- the title song and Calico Skies. Songs from albums he's toured behind generally get filed and forgotten.

It’s too long, falling victim to the extended possibilities of CD.

However, with a little pruning, Flaming Pie, is my third favourite, after Band On The Run, & Ram.
