    From Wikipedia:

"Aqualung is the fourth studio album by the British rock band Jethro Tull, released on 19 March 1971, by Chrysalis Records. It is widely regarded as a concept album featuring a central theme of "the distinction between religion and God", though the band have said there was no intention to make a concept album, and that only a few songs have a unifying theme. According to one reviewer, the album has "dour musings on faith and religion" which for him have marked it as "one of the most cerebral albums ever to reach millions of rock listeners". Aqualung's success signalled a turning point in the career of the band, which went on to become a major radio and touring act.

Recorded at Island Records' studio in London, it was their first album with keyboardist John Evan as a full-time member, their first with new bassist Jeffrey Hammond, and last album featuring Clive Bunker on drums, who quit the band shortly after the release of the album. Something of a departure from the band's previous work, the album features more acoustic material than previous releases; and—inspired by photographs of homeless people on the Thames Embankment taken by singer Ian Anderson's wife Jennie—contains a number of recurring themes, addressing religion along with Anderson's own personal experiences.

Aqualung is Jethro Tull's best-selling album, selling more than seven million units worldwide. It was generally well-received critically and has been included on several music magazine best-of lists. The album spawned two singles, "Hymn 43" and "Locomotive Breath"."

Tough for me to enjoy on a yearly basis. This lp is perfect example of overplaying from FM radio. I know they have moved on to Eagles and Billy Joel but the damage was done to me on this album. When I do listen to it, it sounds fantastic.

    First two tracks obviously.
And then Mother Goose and My God.

If I have to pick only one, it would be My God. The FLUTE rocks!

Cross Eyed Mary, Wind Up and the short pieces. After 50 years of listening to this record I could probably be fine without ever hearing the rest again. Classic album, of course.

Every last cut is outstanding in the context of the entire album, and each could rightfully receive all votes. That said, were I to have to make a cut, I'd make this my podium:

    Bronze: Wind Up
    Silver: My God
    Gold: Locomotive Breath

I voted "Up to Me" ... which I love.

Maybe you have to be from the UK to appreciate a song whose lyric references a date with a a girl being cinema followed by "Wimpy Bar" ... !!

Loved them all from day one and still do.
Aqualung was the big talk in our smoking area at high school. One student seemed to always be up on the latest music and kept us updated by bringing along various new releases. Everyone bought a copy that weekend.
The artwork alone was stunning for the times.

Could have picked some as favourites, but it's hard to imagine the album without any of these songs, so chose them all! They all have a part to play - the louder tracks wouldn't be as effective without the quieter ones.

I would turn 15 the summer of ‘71 and it seemed that every week brought a new mind bending release that would stay with me for like, well like 50 years!
I chose, I love them all.

Very good album, but one of my least favourite Tull albums. From my perspective, most of the albums that followed this are better, by a good margin

Surprised Hymn 43 doesn't have more votes, otherwise it looks about right.
