It's whimsical but also a bit menacing, which often happens in Syd's songs.
    File under mindblowing for me.

It's the only song I remember from my handful of time with that LP

It's a good psych rock track about a cat

The part in the Scarecrow where acoustic guitar and sawing cello enter is pure gold....

No doubt it is the most oft-covered of Syd's songs. True West does a mighty version of Lucifer Sam !

    from a private-press 7" single in 1982

I've never understood why Piper, along with Bridge Over Troubled Water, never appears in the polls for top ten best albums of all time.

Guess UK psych does not have universal appeal, and it is quirky in a way that Beatles, Stones and later Pink Floyd are not. But the equally quirky and great Forever Changes makes it to those lists, so I dunno...

The whole album is mind blowingly amazing. A bit of an overstated way of putting though. I'd prefer to say.....top tune!

BOTW is one of those albums I'd like to be buried with, in the style of the Pharaohs.

And here's a trippy outing from 2OO6, another great Voxx label release.

It's excellent - one of their best. But the stereo mix is irritating. The panning was a very poor choice. So, mono is the mix for me.

The first four songs (plus Arnold and Emily) make up a perfect suite of Barrett Floyd for me, up there with anything recorded in that - or any other - era.

It's a shame Waters and Wright were disparaging about their own playing from this time. I think its excellent, direct, imaginative, experimental. There were a few later flashes of the same spirit in Waters' playing on One of These Days, Echoes, the intro to Time.

I absolutely love Norman Smith's production in wide stereo. The Pretty Things "SF Sorrow", which Smith produced around the same time, is another great example. The mono takes all the fun out of it for me..

Deffo one of my favourite tracks on the album. It's great. I like the descending guitar riff, the way the song changes suddenly at various points, and the concept of it being about a cat.

Its brilliant. It sounds like a cross between a James Bond theme song and a childrens fairy tale.
